Sometimes, you don’t need a remedy - you need trauma healing. Indian Philosophy Nuggets - Part 1 Logical Framework of ĀBHĀSAVĀDA Ābhāsavāda tradition was a sub-school of Advaita Vedānta, primarily developed by Sureśvara, who was a direct disciple of Śaṅkara. Ābhāsavāda is the most rigorous application of non-dual logic. It proceeds from the first principle that the Absolute is indivisible and without attributes. Ābhāsavāda rejects the reality of the individual entirely. It suggests the jīva is a pseudo-reflection or a mere appearance in ignorance (avidyā). This reflection is considered entirely unreal. Upon liberation, the appearance simply ceases, revealing that only Brahman ever existed. The algorithmic derivation of this tradition follows these steps: 1. THE PREMISE: Brahman is the sole, non-dual reality. 2. THE PROBLEM: The existence of an individual ego (jīva) suggests plurality. 3. THE DEDUCTION: Since plurality cannot be real, the jīva must be an ābhāsa: a false appearance with no independent existence. 4. THE RESULT: Liberation is not a merger or a change in state, but the sublation of the false appearance through knowledge. It is important to note here that the historical label “Ābhāsavāda” is sometimes used for the Vivaraṇa school’s reflection model (derived from Padmapāda), while Sureśvara’s identical conclusion is sometimes called “Vārtika-pratibimbavāda”.
