@yellowjax96 @IIAlexios1180 That and completely changing her personality from issue to issue. Look at the difference between the issue she joins the team and the Slumber Party issue. That's not the same character. But the 'powers don't work on earth' meant she was never allowed to do anything.
English

@IIAlexios1180 @sunofdarkchild off the top of my head i’m assuming it’s because he made it so she could only use her spells on limbo and not on earth
English

@JustSlaythe So they'll bring back the character who will be known for nothing other than 'too stupid to use her basic teleportation' and only then do what they should have done in the first place. Just do it right in the first place and don't create stupid problems.
English

@sunofdarkchild But I'm sure they'll give her a whole episode (like Polaris got) when she comes back.
That's where she'll get her full backstory.
They were not gonna do a Magik res this season after teasing Gambit's all season.
And that means when they get to her it won't be demayo's writing.
English

@VibeManDan @Lukas_fta @KitZatara7 Her death was meaningful because of its impact on the entire X-Men, as she was the first child Xavier and the X-Men had to care for and they failed completely. The show erased that entire history, making it completely pointless. You've got to put in the work if you do this.
English

@Lukas_fta @KitZatara7 So just because you like Magik more makes her “a far more valuable character”? Her death and its impact on Colossus is directly pulled from the comics where she was also dead for a majority of the 90s and not brought back until the late 2000s.
English

Welcome Magik to the club of comic sorceresses fridged in an animated adaptation, where they literally just stand there instead of using their magic while meaningfully looking at the man whose story they’re motivating with their death. 😭 Zatanna fans feel your pain
hermes ☿@thehermeister
I understand this will probably lead to Darkchylde but this is genuinely one of the dumbest deaths on the show. Your mutant gift is teleporting stepping discs … you’re not a tree, you can move! Magik stans, I’m so sorry! #XMen97
English

@JustSlaythe Then do the bare minimum by introducing her first, giving the audience a reason to care, and not writing a complete joke of a 'death' scene. Be writers and not lazy bums.
English

@sunofdarkchild Dude we literally are about to deal with Gambit of course they were gonna send Magik to limbo with a "death" before she comes back .....
English

@x_pacaud What's supposed to happen is she gets kidnapped to Limbo, grows up there, comes back and Magik, and then when she's established, and the audience has a reason to care, only then should a death even be considered.
English

@x_pacaud So does everyone who ever died in the comics need to die? Cyclops died for years. So did Wolverine. How about Sunspot's death to restore Magik's powers. Even the comics have been soft-retconning Magik's death out of existence because it is irrelevant and needlessly complicated.
English

@AlexAvOc @Taiokaion @Dcasd1 @Clealxth Because it is completely irrelevant and needlessly complicates matter. The comics treat it like the mistake it was, but these showrunners are too stupid to realize that just like they're too stupid to not have a teleporter not teleport for no reason.
English

@AlexAvOc @Taiokaion @Dcasd1 @Clealxth Ok. Then Sunspot's death has to happen like in the comics. Wolfsbane's death has to happen. Cyclops's death. All of Jean's deaths. They don't? Then Magik's death didn't have to happen either, especially when the comics have been soft-retconning it out of existence.
English

She was using her stepping disks abilities seconds ago, and couldn't move herself from that blast??

Magik 😔
English

@magiksweatyabs @nvak44 So fans had to wait decades for the story Claremont had promised multiple times. It was like if Voldemort disappeared from the last Harry Potter book out of nowhere or if Darth Vader never appeared in Return of the Jedi.
English

@magiksweatyabs @nvak44 The issue wasn't even that she was dead. It's that they didn't even try to resolve her story or character arc since a combination of a writer's bad memory and an editor's hatred led to the final confrontation with Belasco her story had always been building toward never happening
English

@tgwginger No. I'm acting like they've already made changes to the story, and those changes are disastrous from the start and undermine whatever else they try to do from here.
English

@sunofdarkchild You’re acting like they’re not gonna make changes to the story. E is for Extinction, Inferno, the cheating arc, mixing the final horsemen into adventures of cyclops and Phoenix, how gambit becomes a horsemen, etc. 97 takes pieces from multiple comics to make an original story.
English

These responses are so interesting because they miss the point so completely. Quest for Magik is built on the Magik miniseries and the work Claremont did. 97 deliberately refused to do anything to set up Magik other than as an idiot and anything they do now will be unearned.
TGW@tgwginger
@sunofdarkchild I mean she'll definitely come back. I love Magik too, but its not the end of the world.
English

@elliesbelliess @nvak44 It was actually 1988-2007. The child version was never Magik. The real Illyana died in Inferno, and ironically killing off the child version paved the way for the Real Mackoy's return. Very glad I only got into modern comics when she returned and wasn't born yet when she died.
English

@flock313 I agree that the only way the scene makes any sense is if Illyana was doing something deliberately that will be revealed later, which could fix things to some extent, but at the end of the day, it's still stupid and unnecessary, and they haven't earned any trust.
English

@sunofdarkchild I certainly do not know more about the character than you, but it just seemed very obvious to me that it was an intentional choice by Magik and not the last we will see of her in this show
English

@flock313 If it was at least well-written, that would be something, but it wasn't. And now they've done nothing to actually set up her character for any kind of return other than as the character who died from sheer stupidity.
English

@flock313 No. People are mad that she was killed in the stupidiest and laziest death scene ever written, which depended on everyone forgetting she's a teleporter, and that it was done without bothering to establish her at all beforehand. And this already sabotages anything they might do.
English
