@farzyness China’s generation 4 nuclear reactor. Maintains stability under loss of power/malfunction. Can reduce cost of electricity to under 10 cents per kWh for all of US if implemented here. This would help AI, all while being deflationary.

After working for @Tesla for nearly 8 years and achieving one of the highest total cumulative orders in Tesla history, I was let go after one (newly transferred, then fired) manager tarnished my record. I’ve re-applied 3 times and each manager I spoke with was eager and happy to have me rejoin them and their team. However, HR has blocked them from allowing me to return because of one sour manager.

@AdrienM95635680 @markvalorian Rubbing plastic on glass creates more microplastics than plastic on plastic because glass is harder and rougher, acting like a grater to shear off tiny plastic particles. Plastic-on-plastic contact mostly deforms, producing fewer microplastics.

Interesting/despair-inducing finding in this study — glass bottles were actually found to contain 5-50x more microplastic particles than plastic bottles or cans. And the glass bottle beverage with the highest concentration? beer. This from the French food safety agency ANSES looking at French brands so grain of salt but their theory is micro abrasions on the caps of the glass bottles during storage and the bottling process result in particles being deposited on the inside of the caps, which are then transferred into the liquid after bottling. You can see this supported by the data of small glass bottles vs large glass bottles — the smaller ones contain higher concentrations of microplastics which imply a constant “dose” or source of microplastics per bottle (one identical cap on both small and large bottles) as opposed to something more systemic which would result in more constant concentrations across all bottle sizes. Particle colours and FTIR spectra also matched the epoxy-based paint used inside metal caps. Good news is about 60% of the particles can be removed by rinsing and air-blowing caps (resulting in only 87 MP/L vs 287 MP/L in the unwashed caps). A few potential caveats: They don’t have huge sample breadth; total dataset includes 228 items but only 2-3 brands per drink/container, all of which were sourced in France (with EU bottling guidelines) so results may shift with other bottling lines/localities. There’s a significant amount of unidentified particles being lumped into “microplastic” totals; up to ~40% of fragments were “NI” (No Identified) in some cases which could conceivably be naturally occurring non-microplastic particles. Also they only measured particles >30 µm so anything below that threshold would not be quantified in the data. Theoretically, microplastics leeching out of plastic bottles could be smaller than the detection threshold here (as seen in other studies showing hundreds of thousands of nanoplastic particles <1 µm showing up in plastic bottled water), leading to a false sense of security that plastic bottles contain less particles relatively speaking when they actually contain more…and potentially more dangerous nanoplastic particles that invade cells easier. TL;DR — microplastics are gonna get you no matter what you do so just give up and/or move to a cabin in the mountains to drink only fresh spring water to support a false sense of security until a study comes out showing spring water is actually worse than anything else lol

California politicians are pushing for a new mileage tax that would track and tax drivers per mile driven. Predictable, given the #CADems two favorite activities—taxing citizens and tracking them. We cannot burden commuters any more than they already are. Stop the mileage tax.
