@smfcmike I remember a classic quote from a court case involving a Knights fan, when asked why he threw a flare: “Because, Your Honour, it creates a good visual effect when the team scores”.
English

On the topic of flares🔥 at the #NPLMVIC GF, because I imagine Preston would have felt some double standards were at play in the general sentiment arena, I would add:
SIMILARITIES:
🔘Both situations (semi & final) I assume will lead to significant fines per flare thrown
🔘 Both situations I assume will identify & punish/ban key perpetrators (at a federation & police level)
DIFFERENCES:
🔘Some of the projectile throwing of flares in the semi final appeared aimed at a player or players (although Juach’s penalty goal celebration in the semi final IMO didn’t help)
🔘Ironically, the Lakeside 🏟️ running track appears to add a “zone of safety” for thrown flares which will likely (most of the time) ensure it is difficult to target players (or easier to disguise the targeting of players)
🔘Projectile rocket fireworks are simply not on. No control, ridiculous velocity & power.
MY CURRENT VIEW:
🔘 While in 🇦🇺 using flares in a 🏟️ is illegal, I believe there is not an insignificant safety difference between uncontrollably throwing a flare towards the playing surface, as opposed to letting it off on a concrete surface & overseeing its full deployment
🔘A flare at the ⚽️ in 🇦🇺 equals a guaranteed negative article in “old mainstream media”. All perpetrators must weigh this up before deploying, however, I suspect the majority considering letting off flares don’t care
🔘It can differentiate the environment of ⚽️ match (especially when combined with chanting & flags), but perhaps it’s only appreciated by some ⚽️ fans deeply familiar with European & South American ⚽️ culture. Unfortunately, IMO, in 🇦🇺, ⚽️ culture is, generally speaking, weak, & general public acceptance of flares being used for such purposes, low.
🔘I hope the approach at a federation level is to aim to identify & deal with perpetrators as opposed to immediately punish clubs (fines aside) with points deductions & playing behind closed doors (perhaps there can be a tiered punishment system that gradually pulls these levers & as a final resort), especially if clubs can prove they took appropriate measures & cooperated at all times before, during, & after the deployment of flares
MY CURRENT VERDICT:
It’s a nuanced topic, & on balance, I feel preserving the reputation of 🇦🇺⚽️ takes precedence, however, without question, the #NPLMVIC GF atmosphere was amazing.
From my perspective, the real question is, would it still have been amazing without flares? I would argue, that yes, it would still have been amazing.
Put your club & the game first no? 🤔
P.S. Feel free to share your thoughts 👇. I don’t have anywhere near all the answers to this topic.

Can I ask a stupid question. What’s wrong with trees
Cjay@ced_jayy
Scientists create Liquid Trees; a tank full of water and micro-algae that could be an alternative to trees in urban areas.

@TheAEKGuy Of our 12 games we have scored 1 goal in seven of those games. A concern.
English

I hate to be the guy about refs. But I have questions. I am also not blaming the refs for the result. That goal should have been avoided.
1. Wasn’t that tackle on Jovic a red card?
2. There were no clear replays of the handball of Pineda. How can he not go to VAR?
3. 4 minutes exactly he waited to whistle. How so?
Need to get our scoring up. MONO AEK! 🟡⚫️

@Gurugeputha @AFL Bro I thought that decision changed the game. If that decision was paid, it would have been six points difference with 9 mins left. Could have been an all-time prelim. Good luck next week, enjoy.
English

@MarkGottlieb Front contact, chopping the arms. Take your pick. Ruined the match.
English

Anyone who thinks Starcevich has got the ball here is dead set kidding themselves. #AFL #AFLFinals
English

@sconesbie @AFL Correct. No one can say what happens after that. The game had ebbs and flows. Was a classic in the making. Ruined.
English

@sutherlandexp @AFL Right o. Let’s say the free was paid & a goal kicked. The margin is 6 points. No one can say how the game goes after that. Brisbane kick a quick one & off they go again or Collingwood get the ball & score. Who knows. Hypothetical only. Everyone’s just guessing.
English

Well done umpire. It took an all-time shocker to stop @CollingwoodFC charging into the Grand Final. What should have been an all time classic prelim final lost all interest and intrigue after that non-call on Elliott. @afl has blood on their hands
English

@AFL Umpire ruined the game. Show what happened 20 seconds earlier.

@CollingwoodFC A Royal Commission is needed to assess the poor decisions against Cox in that quarter.
English

@disneytipsguy I’ve liked it at DL as a final ride of the night. Always nice finishing in Fantasyland and walking back through the castle and Main Street
English

@7AFL Did McCluggage take the ball out, before Daniher marked and kicked the goal? Looks like it.
