The Muslim captain of the Indian hockey team misses a crucial penalty against Pakistan.
He is branded a “traitor,” with suspicion tied to his Muslim identity. His house is vandalized, “Gaddar” is written on its wall. He is forced to vacate the house with his crying mother, and a background song says, “Teeja tera rang tha main to” (Addressing to the flag : I was the third color of you, i.e., green, i.e., minority), “jiya tere dhang se main to” (I lived by the rules you laid for me), “tu hi tha maula, tu hi aan” (you were my God, my pride).
Chak De was a brilliantly executed, subtle Muslim victimhood propaganda. All this when it was a made-up story. Nothing like that happened. The story had inspiration, if any, from a Hindu coach. In a country where a Muslim actually becomes a captain like Azharuddin and is loved and admired by millions who never cared about his religion, players like Zaheer, Shami, Kaif, Siraj, etc., are idolized, you made a movie showing exactly the opposite, putting the audience into guilt.
I am writing this because I saw a tweet saying there was a time before 2014 when propaganda movies were not made. Lol! Nowadays, propaganda is obvious. Films don’t hide it. They present it openly. Obvious propaganda is easy to spot and dismiss. The more effective kind is the subtle one, wrapped in good cinema, strong emotions, and moral positioning. Films like Chak De!, Rang De Basanti, PK, and My Name Is Khan fall into that category.

@potatoslav that post baffled me. where were people in the 90s and early 2000s? i basically exclusively wore short tops from age 15 to 23. for almost 10 years my midriff was the most tanned part of my body 😂
English

i mean this outfit sucks but when did everyone get to be such boring prudes about bare midriffs, as soon as it gets warm out i’m pushing my stroller in a crop top lol
ɐ͎ʞ͎ć͎ı͎ɹ͎ɐ͎ɯ͎@leamaric
I love how zoomers seem to think it’s totally normal to walk around with their bare midriffs showing in the middle of the day in public. Like, no… anyway, here’s the attention you ordered!

It actually sounds very plausible. Not understanding Kannada is a thing. Not having a say in creative decisions is normal. I have been dubbed in Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat without anyone telling me. I got to know while watching the first telecast with the team. My voice was dubbed mid sentence by someone else in Jhansi ki Rani and an American Accent was suddenly needed on my character in Asur. I have come on sets just to be told that on that day my character will die and the show is over for me. I do know that actors have very little to say and she is a known face. But I doubt she has influence.

I can say that in my Mumbai housing society it was a fashion only. Once some people realised its actual work, they stopped. Now a few against the majority is a hard fight. It doesn't matter how many times it gets mentioned in the Society group or directly at the person's door step. Throwing trash out of the window instead of 🗑️ is bizarre. Especially if it gets picked up every day... It's a mind set I just can't follow

I feel terribly sorry for failure of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. It was the best thing that happened & I myself witnessed the effectiveness even in far off villages among children, men and women. Everyone knew मोदी जी का स्वच्छ भारत अभियान। It was a delight watching people clean up surroundings, people knocking on the windows of cars who threw trash on roads, people carrying their trash in their pockets until they found a trash bin. It seemed India was improving and then it all fizzled down in a few years.

Always a pleasure engaging in a deep geopolitical conversation with my friend, Israel Ambassador @ReuvenAzar
Our discussion on the evolving dynamics of the America-Israel-Iran conflict reaffirmed a fundamental truth of global politics - every nation ultimately acts in the supreme interest of its people and its long-term security.
India and Israel, in many ways, are kindred civilisations. Both nations carry ancient identities, resilient cultures, and an unyielding commitment to survival in the face of persistent existential threats. Whether it is cross-border terrorism, ideological extremism, or state-sponsored aggression, both countries have had to remain vigilant, decisive, and prepared.
Israel today views Iran’s nuclear and missile ambitions as existential threats requiring firm response - a position not unfamiliar to India, which has long confronted its own spectrum of security challenges in a volatile neighbourhood.
This shared reality has forged not just strategic cooperation, but a deeper alignment of thought - one rooted in sovereignty, security, and civilisational continuity.
India and Israel do not merely collaborate; they understand each other.
