Nonsense. Spent fuel - er - ‘waste’ - is a master stroke of anti-nuclear PR developed by frauds like paid Amory Lovins - a term built to exaggerate danger and monger fear. OMG! Nuclear waste is deadly! And it NEVER DIES! Think of the children! Well guess what - there are substances under your kitchen sink - and in your garage - that would kill you in minutes if you did the wrong thing with them. Did you know a sealed bottle of antifreeze in a cool dark place (like ion a shelf in your garage!) remains deadly to humans virtually indefinitely? And yet *somehow* anti-nuclear activists - and the rest of us - manage to live without anyone ‘guarding’ the poisons and deadly forces in our homes…shielding us from the demon Prestone, or protectively karate chopping us every time we try to stick our fingers in the light socket. Day after day, month after month, year after. We live on the edge of a razor people!! Vitrify the spent fuel. Put it in a concrete cask, and leave it where it is with a ‘don’t eat this’ sign spray painted on the outside. Done. Make a note to check the concrete for cracks in the year 2150. Spent fuel is a great neighbor. Leave it in place. Massively less environmental impact than what’s involved in manufacturing and transporting equivalent wind turbines and batteries…both of which are at the end of extractive and damaging supply chains intertwined with fossil fuels. (They don’t use Priuses to mill steel, or to mine and refine copper)
