@sweebread But Rein is literally shown to have a leaner body, you can see in his Thor skin. He does not have a big belly area, he is bulky for sure, but he is not wide, just tall

@Suckdee26233503 @strvmpetss - in order to perserve this "massive" factor, i think a compromise between the realism of his workout routine/diet/daily habit and the character design tools i have at my disposal is to make his body shaped like an immovable rock! which reminded me of weightlifters :]

@sweebread @strvmpetss Olympic level lifters will have higher concentrations of fast twitch muscles and body mass, whereas Rein requires a balance between both slow and fast twitch. Maybe more slow twitch actually since the crusader armor assists with bursts of strengths. Jack Reacher is Rein physique.

@Suckdee26233503 @strvmpetss - meaning im pulling from irl examples of athletes, but im also considering the principles of character design such as shape language, contrast and scale. in the game rein needs to read as a tank at a glance, and blizzard did that masterfully by making him massive

@Suckdee26233503 @strvmpetss hey i learned something from reading this, how educational! i think your analysis is interesting and comes from a deeper understanding of the human body than what i have, and i can totally see this for rein! in my case, im looking to balance realism with character design

@VonCantTakeIt @strvmpetss i agree that a certain lifestyle doesnt directly equal to a certain body fat percentage, after all two weighlifters who lift the exact same weights and have the exact same diet etc etc, will still probably look different. blizzard somehow doesnt know this :(

@sweebread @strvmpetss Not to be that guy but that doesn’t mean he isn’t at a pretty high body fat percentage. I feel like rein would be in the 15-25% range still

@CitrusfruitBoy my vision for this drawing was to depict these characters i love in ways that resemble real life people who undergo intense physical stress and also live day-to-day lives. rein is modelled after irl olympic level weightlifters and 63 year old men i know who drink lots of beer

@sweebread Yeah. Rein, the war vet who feels the need to always be ready for overwatch and who is currently training a future soldier, would be fat. i can see the lack of vision
