It would make sense for Byram to want to get to a place where top PP/top pair minutes are available and be paid accordingly. Toronto? Knies? I’d hate to break up that top 4 but Knies could get me to do it.

I get some saying it’s light on the return for Kesselring but 2 things I thought of:
1. Feels like a move before a move.
2. Gets them out of having to issue a qualifying offer and in the arbitration cycle.

I don't subscribe to the idea that the savings from deals like Tage's or Samuelsson's should be viewed as money set aside to justify future overpayments.
The smart move is avoiding max term deals for players in their 30s. There are exceptions to that rule, but Tuch isn't one.

@MattKopnak Using one comp contract isn’t exactly negotiating reality either. Kempe is slightly better as well and I believe a year younger. He’s also streaky and once he takes big money that comes with expectations I do not believe he will handle well in dips.

That directly impacts Tuch's market. His agent would be doing him a disservice to accept significantly less.
Saying you'd be fine with Tuch at $9M is like saying you'd drive to Florida if gas were $2 a gallon.
