People calling this landlord “illegal” and “cut-throat capitalism” completely miss the point so this landlord in Malaysia ridiculously turned his house hall into 5 indoor tents each tent rents for RM400/month ($100) to fresh grads and young workers. Shared toilets. but it is NOT illegal this is just how the free market works • the owners have the right to decide how to use their property • tenants have the right to decide if they want to pay RM400 for a silly tent or look for something better • no one is forced • if nobody wants the tents, the landlord loses money. He will have to lower the price or scrap the tents and turn it back into a normal room that is how the market fixes things automatically bigger problems will arise when government interventions stop landlords from offering cheap options at all then young people end up with zero affordable places Supply and demand isn’t evil, that’s how the market should work
