Crystals Inside a Meteorite ☄️✨
This slice of the Imilac Meteorite reveals translucent Olivine (Peridot) crystals suspended within a nickel-iron matrix.
This Meteorite formed during the earliest stages of our solar system, over 4.5 billion years ago. Meteorites like this are classified as Pallasites, one of the rarest and most scientifically significant types of meteorites ever discovered.
The Imilac strewn field in Chile produced some of the world’s most iconic pallasite material, but very little is being recovered today, making slices like this increasingly difficult to obtain. ☄️✨
