Why do so many lawyers — especially JAG types — on X think all Combat Arms troops are stupid and only do one thing? I’m guessing this guy is a former JAG attorney or something, based on how spun up he gets in military conversations and the terminology he uses. Every job in the military exists to support one MOS. JAG is a support role. It’s discouraging to watch them openly disrespect the very MOS their jobs exist to enable. Combat is far more complex than “point the infantry at the enemy and tell them to destroy.” We dealt with COIN doctrine they cooked up in air-conditioned offices, implemented it on the ground, told them it wouldn’t work… and they didn’t listen. Not sure why David feels so comfortable insulting so many people who actually did the job, but it says way more about his character than it does about ours.
David Mongan@LawyerDave1

@ThereWBBourbon @OfAthenry "Uggg; me bad. Me no like edjudimated people." - Eric, between drinks. Your job was to be pointed in a direction and told to destroy. Others advise the folks who point you where you can do the most good. Shut up and follow orders.

Funny Story, When I was in the 82nd we messed with new guys a lot. So sending guys to get a “Box of Grid Squares” was pretty common. 😂 Anyway, we had several NCO’s in a very short time send guys looking for a box of grid squares, all of whom had made it all the way to BN looking for them. Start Duty was just in from of CSM Flowers office. Well CSM Flowers got sick of it, and had the Staff Duty runners take maps, and cut them into Individual grid squares, and put them in what I can only describe as an empty puzzle box. Mind you this is several maps, they are of adjoining areas, but they are all different map sheets. 🤣 One day one of my buddies Soldiers walks into the PLT CP area with a box labeled “grid squares”, walks over to my buddy “CSM Flowers said he wants the maps back together, and I’m in office by COB Sergeant”! 💀 🤣 There was even a roll of clear tape in the box! 🤣 1SG walked in as my buddy and his entire squad are putting together these grid squares so he can get this box back to the CSM by COB, which was only about half an hour away when he got the box. 1SG laughed and said “why didn’t i think of that” as he turned and walked out. CSM Flowers called down laughing, and told him to bring his box of grid squares back so he didn’t have to have SD runners cut up more maps. 🤣 That box went around the BN a few times, but not to C Co. ever again. 🤣 we learned the first time. I mention CSM Flowers often because he was the best CSM I ever worked for, and the man was a Soldiers Soldier through and through. I feel fortunate to have had him as our CSM, and I learned more in that short time than all the years before or after. That man was the epitome of what a NCO and a CSM should be, and if he ever reads this, Thank You CSM! 🫡 🇺🇸 Keep That PMA 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

GM, I may have told this story before, but here it is again. Leadership Decisions: I had a Soldier who was also a good friend, he joined late in life, and had a finance who he had two kids with when he joined. They weren’t married though, and had another kid on the way. We are only about four months from deploying to Iraq, and optempo is high. He gets told he won’t be able to go see his daughter born because he’s not married. He shows up at my place bummed, and I’m like why the hell didn’t you come to me first, I’m your squad leader. Anyway, we have a four day weekend coming up, and I yank his ass off to the side to release him early. “Grant, you go straight to Wisconsin, get your ass married, and get back here by Sunday, you call me if anything goes wrong, or there’s any delay.” He says “but I don’t have a pass” To which I reply “You have a weather pass, now make it back here before Monday morning formation, and keep me in the loop.” Grant made it back around midnight Sunday night, newly married, and with some rifles he couldn’t keep in the barracks I agreed to keep at my place until he had an apartment with his wife, which he had two week later. Grant was one of the best soldiers I ever had the honor of leading, and was one of the best friends a man could ask for. Our PSG never asked how or when Grant got married, he just looked at me and smiled, Jacob is a great guy, and I still hang out with him whenever I can. Grant saw his youngest born, and his family was with him up to the day we deployed. I would have lost my job if anyone found out about that at the time, and it would have been worth it. “Soldiers First, Mission Always, because if you take care of your Soldiers they will Always accomplish the mission.” CSM Flowers 2-325 AIR Grant was killed by an IED May 15, 2006, he was one of the best Soldiers the Army has ever seen, and he ALWAYS accomplished the mission. I miss Grant more than I can put into words. RIP Brother 🫡 🇺🇸 Two guns are better than one! 😆

Good, you’d have made it worse. I have no shame Dave, you mean nothing to me. And my point still stands towards JAG, and if you knew half as much about the military that you think you do you’d know that. But seeing as you never spent a day in uniform, none of your opinions about any of us matter. Your childish insults won’t illicit the repose you’re fishing for either. Truly hope you find the peace you’re missing Dave.

@syskusa I hate to ruin your carefully crafted scenario, but I was never a JAG. If you had a sense of shame you'd feel as presumptuous and stupid as you look. Fortunately you were born without that bit of personality.

Damn! They pretty much just moved guys that were stopped lossed to staff jobs in the beginning, unless they wanted to stay in their jobs. Most of them wanted to stay, hell some re-enlisted. I was at the 82nd though, and almost everyone in 325 was pissed the other BDE’s had been deployed to Afghanistan, and we were still at Bragg. They were calling us “the parade brigade”! 😡 Dudes were ready to go. When 1-325 and 3-325 left for Kuwait, 2-325 about lost our damn minds! We thought we were gonna miss out on the war, dudes were not happy. 😆
