@micah_erfan Any reason why you specified traditional? Why not combine Roth IRAs and 401ks too?

@xurbanxcowboyx I think sounds changing based on what's adjacent, even across word boundaries, is fairly common. It's just that it's often not reflected in writing.

@xurbanxcowboyx The definite article in Arabic also changes based on the beginning sound of the next word (though there it changes to match, not to become different like a/an).

A/an differentiation has to be one of the weirder aspects of the English language. We change the indefinite article based on the beginning sound of the next word? Seems weird

@elneurozorro @austinmobility FWIW I actually think we got close to 60% on the ~30 lots that are actually on our street, but they added about 40 lots from an adjacent street to the total, which I think made it significantly harder. Several people told us they only answered the door cause they recognized us.

@elneurozorro @austinmobility Yeah, I saw that equity would be a selection criteria, but the way it was communicated to us is that the application requires 60% of parcels to sign, so I'm not sure if selection criteria can adjust for the fact that maybe they just won't get those applications.

Is it just me or is anyone else struggling to meet the 60% signature requirement for @austinmobility's Living Streets program? We posted online & spent hours canvassing 74 properties, and we got a mostly positive response, but reaching 44 seems time-consuming & unlikely.

I'll be very curious to see what participation rates for Healthy/Play Streets look like. Maybe others will have an easier time, but I worry participation could end up low and favoring richer/privileged neighborhoods.

I don't even think we got in contact with 44 properties. Perhaps unsurprisingly, a lot of door knocks go unanswered, but I would also guess 10-20% of properties were vacant, under construction, or STRs.

In East Austin, @AustinISD plans to build 500+ affordable homes. 👍 In Rosedale, because of NIMBY feedback, they're planning 50 single-family homes. 👎 If AISD caves to Rosedale NIMBYs, they will contribute to segregation and continue decades of inequitable land use.

In the E 12th proposed changes, they put the bike lane between the parking and the curb, so I'm not sure why Rosewood would be different.

People generally don't sue to end programs they support. Spending money and effort poking legal holes in good policies can be left to the opposition. By suing over Affordability Unlocked, Community Not Commodity is letting us know where they stand regarding affordable housing.

With abundant housing, we'd have more connection. We'd have more diversity in our communities. We'd have a more equitable society. Dense, multifamily housing is a good thing! Special thanks to @brendanregs for creating this AMAZING illustration 🤩

@sosalliance their typical response is "oh we actually only do work around the Edwards Aquifer so it's not within our purview thanks" which is funny because just a few months ago they were doing their best to get their members to believe the Statesman PUD project was worthy of a holy crusade

just realized we got blocked from the @sosalliance instagram for asking why they aren't saying anything about the I35 expansion. Please consider asking them in the blog's honor 🫡
