@Jenny_1884 Very simplistic view - you also had a TV aerial, not Sky, Netflix, etc. A dial up phone, not broadband, iPhone, etc. one TV, not several flat screens. And so on for almost every part of your life.

When I married in 1981 we both worked & most of our salary went on paying the mortgage as the interest rate was 15% at the time.
Everything we owned was 2nd hand & we never went out for meals as we couldn’t afford to.
We rented our TV
Went to the launderette every weekend as had no washing machine.
Only had new clothes at Xmas & birthdays as presents.
We went without until we could save enough to pay for something.
It’s always been hard whether you are young or old.
So those out there that think we had it easy we didn’t.
Our governments are to blame, not the old.

@TiceRichard @nadhimzahawi He’s honest. A quality that professional tax avoiders like you @TiceRichard would not recognise…

Just a few decades ago, a working class man could have a nice house & look after his wife & kids on a single salary doing good honest work
Now single-income households are almost impossible to sustain for most people
Families have lost around 35 hours of leisure time per week to compulsory work
Just a few decades ago a house was 3x salary. Now it is 10-12x salary
No real increase in living standards, just more tax and more interest & debt to the banks
And what about our children not being able to spend any time with their parents?

@robprogressive Inequality is the reason that many people are & feel poorer. There needs to be an asset tax as well as income tax…
English

@Petrie_JohnC She is very ‘surface’, very ‘soundbite’, very ‘political’ and as a bonus, very irritating 😠!
English

@robprogressive ‘Council tax is actually a wealth tax’ …. Good!👍. The more you have, the more you pay whilst still leaving you with loads.
English

Why do I have to pay over £5,000 to have my bins emptied
Just because my house is bigger? Or in a different area?
It’s the same ‘service’ whether your house is worth £200K or £2 million
Up to £5,835 a year to get your bins emptied
Oh, and if I ALREADY pay a national tax, why am I paying a local tax on top?
Council tax is actually a wealth tax
English

@Heccles94 What Tice did & does is immoral and we should all be campaigning to changes immoral rules & laws.
English

@robprogressive Taxes support society and shared infrastructure such as the health system, etc, etc. but you know this already.
English

Why do you have to pay 10% of what you earn on Council Tax for your house…
When you already paid 15% stamp duty to buy the house…
From money you paid 45% tax on in the first place
That’s 3 f*cling taxes just to LIVE.
Why do you have to pay 20% tax on a new car
And then up to £5,490 road tax
And then 59% fuel duty and 20% VAT which is £41.46 out for a £70 tank in tax
That’s 3 f*cking taxes just to DRIVE
AND there’s STILL POTHOLES f*cking everywhere
Beyond a joke

@RupertLowe10 you should read this, it may put you off the death penalty… nytimes.com/2026/03/13/opi…

🤬Sick: A Muslim man proposes to a 7-year-old girl, she agrees, and they’ll marry when she’s 8. Islam clashes with all other cultures. Deport Islamists and ban Islamic immigration before it’s too late? A. Yes B. No
English

@robprogressive That’s how society infrastructure gets paid for - you know, all those shared facilities that the rich folk wouldn’t pay for unless there was tax. Idiot!
English

How you get taxed to death in the UK 🇬🇧
Me: I earn £100k
HMRC: Lovely. We’ll take about £40k
Me: I buy a £30k car
HMRC: Add 20% VAT
Me: I invest and make £20k profit
HMRC: Capital Gains please
Me: I gift my kid £10k
HMRC: Hope you live 7 years
Me: I sell some stuff online and make £200
HMRC: That’s income. Declare it
Me: I buy a £400k house
HMRC: Stamp Duty please
Me: I finally retire
HMRC: Great. Now we tax your pension
Me: I die
HMRC: Inheritance Tax please
English

@MBKEsquire @SketchesbyBoze Hmm … and so why did Bob Dylan, that rather well know singer / songwriter receive the Nobel prize for literature?
English

@SketchesbyBoze Do not, I pray you, compare the genius of Jane Austen with the Beatles .
They are not comparable.
But you are perfectly at liberty to compare Miss Austen’s work with that of the Brontè sisters.
Music and Literature are two entirely different things.
English

@Keir_Starmer Resign you weak and pathetic wanker.

I know the situation in the Middle East is worrying for British people in the region, and at home.
It’s my duty as Prime Minister to keep British people safe.
I will be answering questions on the steps we took over the weekend in Parliament. Watch at 3:30pm.

@GoodwinMJ @IsabelOakeshott What on earth is ‘sectarian voting’ supposed to be? And how is it different from people voting for their community interests - isn’t that democracy??
English

@NeilTheRobin1 Definitely as long as it includes the role of colonialism and its impact… 👍
