You're not alone—and there are a few simple strategies to tackle this.
Here are three ways to start speaking up more naturally:
1️⃣ Build on what someone else said: You don’t always need a new idea. Try: "That connects to something I was thinking…" This lowers the pressure and keeps the conversation moving.
2️⃣ Ask a thoughtful question: Questions are one of the easiest ways to contribute. Try: "What would success look like here?" Questions show engagement and create space for discussion.
3️⃣ Start small: You don’t need to wait for the perfect moment. A short comment, observation, or clarification still adds value. Confidence often comes after you start speaking up—not before.
Speaking up doesn't have to look like being the most vocal person in the room. It's about contributing in ways that move conversations forward. And over time, those small moments build visibility, trust, and confidence.
