✅ || UNHCR Honors Kurdish Activist Taban Shoresh with the Nansen Award
🟢 The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has selected Kurdish activist Taban Shoresh, founder of The Lotus Flower in the Kurdistan Region, as one of this year’s Nansen Refugee Award laureates for her extraordinary humanitarian service.
🔴 Shoresh was recognized for her extensive work supporting more than 105,000 women, children, and survivors of conflict, especially those affected by ISIS atrocities. UNHCR described her contributions as “exceptional humanitarian commitment,” noting that she was honored alongside other leading humanitarians from around the world.
🟡 The Lotus Flower provides psychosocial support, women’s empowerment programs, education initiatives, economic development projects, and safe spaces for displaced communities, making it one of the most impactful civil society initiatives in the region.
♾️ UNHCR officials stated that Taban Shoresh’s dedicated efforts on the ground are not only vital for the Kurdistan Region but also serve as a global example of humanitarian solidarity.
