@EamonnFlanagan If you go back farther still not impressive. 180 was hit multiple times at a weight of 82.5. Not sure the promoters know the history of weightlifting and the all time records that came before

Rybakov 🇧🇾 snatched 187kg at 85kg BW before the weightclass changes. Some of these "world records" their touting aren't all-time bests. Admittedly Rybalov's record was one of the most insane in all of weightlifting
Enhanced Games@enhanced_games

The ceiling has been lifted. Enhanced athlete Arley Méndez just snatched 180kg in training, surpassing Yeison Lopez’s 177kg world record snatch in the 88kg weight class. Witness history as Enhanced athletes break more world records at the Enhanced Games in Las Vegas on May 24.

@drjoshheenan Accupuncture is based on flawed premises. That meridian lines exist and you can alter Qi. None of that is real and can be measured. These studies are poorly designed and are great examples of the placebo effect. I agree with your statement we need I higher standards in the field.

Indeed, I read the review. Most of the research is not done on athletes, that is why I look at the neurological and hormonal research to determine much of what I use clinically from a functional neurology perspective— especially when modulating pain and emotional disorders. Acupuncture is outstanding at treating neurological issues. Nearly all cases that are rooted in autonomic dysregulation or neurotransmitter deficiency it’s often the best tool. And those issues often feed movement dysfunctions. Loads of research show we can… Modulate pain- pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC42… Modulate hormones- pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19766392/ Modulate depression/mood- sciencedirect.com/science/articl… We absolutely can influence short and long term positive changes validated from chemical and fMRI studies. The goal of treatment depends on the need of the athlete, but they all can benefit from better autonomic regulation.

New research: Acupuncture doesn’t just reduce pain, it rewires your brain. Findings include: • BDNF-driven neurogenesis: new neurons form in hippocampus • Synaptic repair: damaged neural connections rebuild • Long-term potentiation: same learning pathway that activates from 10,000 skill reps Depression = impaired hippocampal neuroplasticity, not just a chemical imbalance. For athletes: motor learning acceleration, plateau breaking, post-concussion recovery, overtraining depression. Protocol: GV20 + ST36, 20-30min, 2-3x/week “Possible antidepressant mechanism of acupuncture: targeting neuroplasticity” Frontiers in Neuroscience, Feb 2025

@drjoshheenan Show one actual real study showing acupuncture works beyond placebo in athletes. Promoting a nonsense treatment with no scientific backing and linking it to helping athletes is not helpful. Did you read the review?

@taber85kg As a graduate of and former employee of SHU, I really thought we had a higher standard within our community of professionals. I encourage you to put your ego aside and actually crack open pubmed before making wildly uneducated claims.

Excited to get this one across the line! Take-home: Minimal differences exist during traditional squats, but stronger men produce greater mean force over similar or shorter durations than weaker men during AEL squats! 💪 @ConorCantwell @taber85kg

@jtwheat27 Dr. Sato is in the experiment for pilot testing and I’m running the computer. That was a great early study on the flywheel. Got more coming out over the next year.

exxentric.com/blog/flywheel-… Good article from a while back summarizing research at the time. Many s&c coaches probably couldn't read the research. That's Dr Mike Stone in the middle - former Head of Sport Physiology for USOC and somebody I used to help. I think flywheel and perhaps other tech like @1080motion should be implemented now. I'm very familiar with flywheel (used over 22 yrs ago) but working for financial company have not used @1080motion yet.

@jtwheat27 A sport scientist simply put “is a person who uses the scientific method and scientific knowledge to improve an athletes performance.” The specifics of each job are dependent on the sport but that’s the end goal - Performance

@jtwheat27 @realDonaldTrump @NSCA As for listed jobs, that's only people that post through the NSCA. Many more positions are posted on linkedin, twitter and other media formats. Most on the website are S&C industry jobs and sport science are often found elsewhere.

I make more than most of the jobs the @NSCA lists a salary range for just talking on the phone and punching stuff in a computer for a financial company. No education required but you do need speaking talent! And I have two degrees in exercise and so-called 'sport science.' I think the whole area is a ripoff and scam! It's a very strange field!

Where do people with degrees in Exercise or SPORT SCIENCE work? Simple question and common sense like @realDonaldTrump believes in using would seem to say if there aren't any decent jobs and the area is oversaturated then degree programs for this should be dismantled and the entire area restructured!

@jtwheat27 @realDonaldTrump Hi John, I cant speak to others programs but from our program graduating about 10+ students a year there are plenty of jobs. We send people to high schools, colleges, and professional and industry jobs. Every year I send 1-2 students onto academia.

This is wrong. Research actually shows, running REDUCES visceral fat. And long term runners have low visceral fat. Not to mention, aerobic performance (in running) is one of the best predictors of health & longevity. Even doctors can say dumb things on social media for clicks.
Sean OMara MD, JD@DrSeanOMara

Anyone defending distance running as healthy who are or were for a substantial period of time distance runners need only get an MRI of themselves to see that they will have an elevated amount of dangerous visceral fat, as well as deadly fat around their heart.
