It's nice and all that content creators are flying out to Blizzard this week to test Classic + but I am confident Blizzard is going to make it a liberal clown show just like retail. Also, I bet they fuck up pvp as usual.

Adjustments to Reduce Non-Participation in Dungeons in Burning Crusade Classic Anniversary We’ve observed a significant number of Burning Crusade players entering dungeons and then participating in no meaningful gameplay, often while only one party member plays through the instance. When this is prominent, it can lead to detrimental economic effects, among other concerns, so we’re implementing a series of hotfixes to address it. - Players must participate in combat to receive experience from dungeons. - The amount of loot dropped by non-boss enemies in high-level dungeons is now determined by how many players participate in the kill. The vast majority of players who participate in dungeon groups as usual should see no difference after these updates. These changes will go into effect with scheduled weekly maintenance in each region.

He STOLE the BEST IN SLOT TRINKET (or saved the day?) the most viral WoW TBC thread on reddit in weeks is all about a stolen quagmirrans eye drama. Would you do what this tank did to save the day, or do you think he made the wrong decision? in TBC phase 1, there is ONE caster trinket that truly changes the game. Quagmirrans EYE from slave pens heroic. ot has a disgustingly low 16% droprate, and is TRUE BEST IN SLOT for shadow priests, boomkins, arguably mages. but for whatever reason...maybe you can tell me, people REALLY consider tihs to be a WARLOCK trinket, it's their birthright. today, after countless heroics, a quagmirrans eye dropped in sephiroths PUG slave pens group. But something crazy happened: OUT OF NOWHERE The RESTO DRUID rolled on the item, and got a 93, crushing the warlocks hopes and dreams. but then instantly, sephiroth the tank stepped in fast to white knight for this pug warlock and rolled as well, and AGAINST ALL ODDS he got a 99. since heroic items are tradeable, other than primal nethers, he heroically handed it over to the warlock, who he believed rightfully deserved the trinket. But was this move as heroic as it seemed in the tanks head? any warlock will say absolutely, this was the right call, and hey, healers usually arent entitled to DPS loot just because its BIS. buuut this is a bis trinket for every caster, and the resto mained boomkin. And many healers only heal to get a group spot and help out, there arent a lot of boomkin spots in a heroic slave pens. What's your take on the situation? Is this guy a hero or should the druid have won his BIS item? 🧵👇

@N_Tys26 @Xaryu modern game design is inherently worse. AAA game studios are ruled by greed and corporate capture rather than emergent gameplay and rewarding systems.

If I seemed MIA last month it’s cause I got EXTREMELY into Ashes of Creation ~ around 400 or so hours in 30 days (I know, not healthy).. And contrary to all the doom n gloom / I told you so people.. I actually really enjoyed my time with the game and fully believed in it so the news of its sudden shut down has got me a bit bummed out. Despite being an alpha and missing tons of features I thought it had a lot of promise, especially given the talks of future content / scope (after all.. it WAS an Alpha) || Throne n Liberty took 10 or so years to develop so save me from all the “lOL 10 yEArs FoR ThaT?!”.. Ashes was genuinely one of a kind. Felt like I was playing modernized Dark Age of Camelot / Ultima Online / Sandbox MMOs of old. I don’t think we’ll see another attempt to make a Sandbox MMORPG of this scale again. People seem to fully enjoy hyper - theme park MMOs so that’s what we’ll continue to get 🤷🏽‍♂️ Maybe I’m ignorant still to some of the details behind this “inevitable” shut down but I really thought Steven had good intentions behind the games vision / creation. Heart goes out to all the devs / team who worked tirelessly on the creation of such an epic world. Truly enjoyed what y’all created.. I know your talents & passion will land upon something great once more in time❤️ Shoutout to all the homies on Lyneth / in Locked In. Were some good memories🙏🏼

@Boogily_Woogily understandable that devs aren’t trained in media relations, but is there any reason in particular classic has no effective line of communication for patch notes or upcoming changes in content? i report bugs in-game, on forums, on the github repo, yet issues on x are fixed fastaf.

This is one reason why devs are silent on social media. We are not infallible and we don't know everything. But if devs share info or make mistakes, and players are mean about it, then devs will just stop sharing. And that sucks for devs and players who want to have a dialogue.

Well it was a weird morning for sure. If you logged into Classic MoP US this morning you may have noticed... some strange things. The shorter version of events is weekly maintenance picked up a new client and some new server code to fix a few bugs. QA tests and signs off on all these changes in the days before these go Live, and we then stage the changes to get picked up automatically. Somewhere along the way we managed to have the new client live but not all of the matching server code. This caused a 'protocol break' (imagine the two were no longer speaking the same language, similar but different enough to cause... confusion) and the client was now reading hot garbage data from the server. It did it's best but the result were memory leaks, some truly next level blending of different races and gender character customization options as well as other weird bugs. Normally we would just revert a bad client immediately, but since this one contained a couple of protocol breaks we couldn't pull the client without having to down the servers and pull the corresponding code anyway. So we failed forwards and got the intended code Live, brought US Classic back up and everything was back to normal, eugh, rough start to the day. As if that wasn't enough Vanilla and Mainline WoW also decided to randomly stop talking to Battle.Net for 15 minutes blocking login. Still haven't figured out that one, by the time folks dug in they were acting like best of friends again as if nothing happened. Oh, and character creation got locked again in Classic US because of a typo. Oh oh, because it was cursed Tuesday, when I was shutting down US Classic for the emergency down/up I also managed to miss shutting down the AU realms because of a missing ' . ' in a filter. I've repeatedly said Live Ops just needs to stop. Step away from the computers. Touch nothing. Go and wait out the day in a padded room. Cursed Tuesday, sorry for the spicy day all! Oh god, what is going to happen this evening. I need to hide.

@PhillyBeatzU @Pokemon Years ago you used to be able to get a stack of them from a shelf on target sitting unattended there wasn't an inventory issue, the companies were given packs ontop of packs of code cards. It's absurd.

Greetings! We wanted to take a moment to comment on our recent communications we assembled specifically for our community in China. We appreciate the discussion about our updates in China, but we want to clarify that everything in those comms, particularly comments about our focus, is intended for our China community, specifically. What we are working on -- be it Classic Anniversary or Burning Crusade Classic Anniversary, Mists of Pandaria Classic and the future of our progression realms, or anything else we are working on in the Classic space -- has not changed, and to be clear: Our announcements regarding our plans in China do not change that. This feels like a good time to refer back to one of our blue posts, so we'll just leave this here: us.forums.blizzard.com/en/wow/t/21109… We are excited to reveal more when the time is right.

So being sassy aside, thought I'd fill in the blanks on why PvP realms in WoW always without fail slowly drift into mono-faction psudo-PvE realms and why Warmode ultimately happened instead. The tongue in cheek joke is that players don't really want PvP, but like to be on a PvP realm for that old school prestige, hrm, maybe for some but for most no, they just wanted to play with enough people of their faction to do the content they wanted. The slide towards mono-faction starts right at the birth of a realm, when we re-launched Classic most of the PvP realms landed somewhere around a 45-55 split, some realms pro-Horde, some pro-Alliance, that's decently balanced at a glance, but its also the seeds of their eventual destruction. Generally, no one wants to be the underdog, and even with a 45-55 split, that's a few extra guilds that the opposing side will always be able to field, every world PvP engagement is generally just ever so slightly lop-sided against you if you're on the 45% side. What we saw is that on these servers there were usually cornerstone guilds that held up their sides "PvP army", you know that one guild that was able to break through and actually let your faction raid Molten Core that night. Eventually, these guilds would get tired of the slog, and it only takes one of them to decide to move to a realm where their faction isn't the underdog and there would be a big swing in the balance of power around the PvP hot spots. That would trigger a much quicker exodus of the remaining serious raiding guilds who didn't want every raid night to get blocked by the opposing faction. When picking a new home, you don't pick yet another realm where you're slightly outnumber, you pick one where you slightly outnumber, you've had enough of that crap. This pushes the destination realm more out of balance, and the smaller faction there goes through the same process. As we watched Classic go through Vanilla, TBC this process accelerated because well, doing Sunwell dailies on a contested server where you aren't the big dog... sucked. By the end of TBC almost all the PvP realms were mono-faction, not because people didn't want to PvP but they didn't want to be on the more often than not losing side, there were no "balanced" realms to go to so mono-faction PvP it is. There was also the old realm caps, we've massively increased realms ability to accept players so this one isn't relevant now, but if you had an older Classic style realm that was balanced and queued, vs a mono-faction realm queued, well there was twice as many of your faction to group with on the mono-faction realm. This process is exactly what happened to Mainline WoW and why PvP realms ultimately were removed and Warmode created. Fun fact, Warmode, we totally made the same mistake too. At launch, we knew that overall Horde players generally participate in PvP more than Alliance so we knew that it was likely more Horde and Alliance would opt into Warmode. They wanted to make sure that each Warmode shard had some Alliance players so it spread out all the Alliance players between all the Warmode shards we needed based on player numbers. Uh-oh, er, there's like 40 Allies in the zone and 200 Horde. It was a blood bath, so Alliance stopped using Warmode. They then changed it to a max allowed delta, I think the split was 40-60 and then all remaining Horde would go into excess shards that were just all Horde and no Alliance. But... that's still you're always outnumbered if you're Alliance, participation from the Alliance continued to drop making things worse. Finally, it was settled to balance Warmode shards at 50/50 and all spillover goes onto single-faction Warmode shards which is where we remain today, if you're on a Warmode shard and you see the other faction, you should have an equal amount of back-up as they do. All this PvP mono-faction realm stuff is why for Season of Discovery we took our first stab at forced faction balance, it worked out stupidly well for how basic the system was at its heart, so we did it again for Anniversary and it'll likely be the norm for all Classic flavour PvP realms going forward. By preventing one faction from becoming notably the underdog it stops the slow drain and then route as one faction starts getting bodied constantly. Its not perfect, but it's had great results. Why didn't we turn this on in Classic Cata at the time? Since we're only gating initial character creation, it has no effect on already heavily unbalanced realms, that horse had already left the stables. Anyway, thanks for following along this random trip down memory lane.
