Introduction
Gracing us with yet another amazing design, Solstice has switched up the pace with a striking orange and the imagery of a Valkyrie wielding a double ended scythe, the Aura is the latest release by Solstice promising to be a control pad contrary to its previous balance-speed oriented Arrival [skip to end for conclusion]
Games Played: Valorant, Overwatch, KovaaK’s, Marathon
Skates Used: Artisan Dots and UNWS Silver Foxes (3 on top, 3 on bottom)
Previous Pads Used: Xraypad AC+, Artisan Zero Soft XL, Pulsar Superglide, Wallhack SP-004, 9Kings Fumetsu, Padsmith Rosa Blue, Tekkusai Void, Solstice Arrival, MizuWorks Cascade, Superbeings Lab Memoria Pro
Surface + Base
To the touch the surface is extremely smooth, however to use it is noticeably slower than its counterpart the Arrival and the more popular Artisan Zero Soft. While its glide is faster than the Superbeings Memoria Pro, the stopping power is greater, which makes it amazing for TacFPS and even while playing Overwatch due to the smooth glide it felt incredibly accurate. Unlike other controlled pads which tend to be textured, as an autistic person I had not a single sensory issue, due to the smoothness of the pad. The base comprises of PORON and glues to my laminated desk so much that it was hard to adjust initially. As with the Arrival, there are no issues with any mouse sensors I’ve tested and it vacuums up water spillages like a black hole, so no need to worry if you spill your Monster over the pad just let it dry for a bit and it’ll be completely fine.
Appearance
The artwork of the Valkyrie is captivating, and the orange with white accents is incredibly striking and as always I love the minimalistic logo design in the corner.
Pros
+ Controlled, textured surface
+ Amazing quality
+ Absorbs spillages like a sponge
Cons
- May be pricey with shipping (coming to retailers soon)
- Orange may be an odd colour to match with a setup
Conclusion
This pad is endgame for me, it has everything I desire as a TacFPS main, in terms of control, texture, clean appearance and durability. It also solves my 2 main issues with the Superbeings Memoria Pro, 1) texture and 2) glide - it is smooth so no arm sleeve required, and glides well enough that I don't have to switch out when playing Arena/Extraction Shooters.
If you’re able to get your hands on this I would definitely recommend, look out for an announcement on retailers and grab it before it sells out!
