UPDATE: The Lear family has issued a statement following the deaths of Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer, in their Los Angeles home: "The Lear Family is devastated by the deaths of Rob and Michele Reiner.  Norman often referred to Rob as a son, and their close relationship was extraordinary, to us and the world. Norman would have wanted to remind us that Rob and Michele spent every breath trying to make this country a better place, and they pursued that through their art, their activism, their philanthropy, and their love for family and friends.  Lyn Lear had remained very close with them and said, "The world is unmistakably darker tonight, and we are left bereft." variety.com/2025/film/news…

I am devastated by the death of Rob Reiner and his wife Michele. He was an inspired and brilliant director and a kind, good, loving man who lived his life as a tireless and generous advocate for others. I am indebted to Rob for giving me a leg up in this business, casting me in the first film I could be proud of being in, The Sure Thing and later giving me the gift of a lifetime when I was cast in The Shawshank Redemption, a film Rob produced. My heart goes out to his family and the thousands of people in the film business that were lucky enough to work with him, witness his great talent and be invited into his large, loving heart. This is a crushing loss. All my love and prayers to Rob and Michele. Flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.

I’m heartbroken by the passing of my friend Rob Reiner and his wife Michele. Rob came from a truly magical and deeply talented family and was an incredible director, actor, and above all a remarkable human being and friend. I was also a huge fan of All in the Family, and his impact on TV, film and storytelling will never be forgotten. This is a terrible tragedy, and my heart goes out to his family, friends, and fans. Sending love and my deepest condolences to everyone who loved Rob and Michele.

We are deeply saddened by the untimely passing of Rob and Michele Reiner. As an actor and director, Rob redefined storytelling in cinema, fearlessly challenging conventions and blending humor, heart, and social insight in ways that inspired viewers and all filmmakers. Beyond his creative brilliance, he was an unequivocal advocate for democracy and a steadfast voice for positive change on the screen and off the screen. His extraordinary vision and pioneering spirit will be deeply missed, but his legacy as a trailblazer in film will continue to inspire for generations to come.

Losing Rob and Michele Reiner is truly heartbreaking. They were loyal friends and among the kindest people I have ever met. Rob made an indelible impact on American entertainment, but what stands out most to me is how he and Michele worked together to champion democracy, LGBTQ+ rights, and, above all, empathy and compassion. I am thinking of everyone who is feeling this loss so deeply today.

Michelle and I are heartbroken by the tragic passing of Rob Reiner and his beloved wife, Michele. Rob’s achievements in film and television gave us some of our most cherished stories on screen. But beneath all of the stories he produced was a deep belief in the goodness of people—and a lifelong commitment to putting that belief into action. Together, he and his wife lived lives defined by purpose. They will be remembered for the values they championed and the countless people they inspired. We send our deepest condolences to all who loved them.
