Bangladesh is crippled by a media blackout, with intelligence agencies fully controlling TV channels and print media. Journalists are compelled to practice self-censorship, using state-approved content, while popular social networks are restricted with frequent internet interference. Yet, the people of Bangladesh are inspired by the brave journalists, human rights defenders, civil society members, and online activists at home and abroad, who dare to reveal the true picture of the nationwide protests. I salute all of them for demonstrating their uncompromising commitment to justice, fairness, and truth. Along with the nation, I urge the media professionals who continue to comply with the regime’s agenda to muster their courage and overpower threats, support this movement that has united all Bangladeshis except affiliates of the regime, and share accurate facts, figures, and casualties with the public and the wider world. If not now, when will they serve Bangladesh with integrity and patriotism, free from fear and pressure?
