@funplings the distinction gets murky with cognitive empathy vs. affective empathy. so maybe I'm not using the right terms. but at the core: learning to understand the process of someone's mind even if that process could never occur in my own mind was very useful.

@funplings theory of mind helps when someone holds a view I *can't* (or don't want to) empathize with.

empathy != theory of mind. understanding the difference was an essential step in improving my capabilities with both.

My friends literally cannot stop staying up all night in my house. This is the land of faes where 3am is the most normal time in the world to start a multiple-hour conversation, apparently

data from my last month of claude code usage. median turn length for fable and opus is ~same, but fable is substantially more right-skewed.

@funplings the payment terminal doesn't know your card's foreign transaction fee, so it can't figure out which is cheaper. rule of thumb: always pay in the local currency.

what's the point of selecting which currency to use when paying for something in a foreign country with a card? why doesn't it just always default to whatever is functionally cheapest for you?

the demanding chef archetype exists as a method of permission through authority. “oh, I have to eat this blindfolded? if the chef insists…” if you don’t learn to “just” do things, you can pay a lot of money for the privilege instead.

@MattiasInSpace I sometimes use true-but-hollow statements to avoid having to say something sincere. It's possible to be completely honest with someone for years without ever saying something *real*.

It's in the penumbra. It's literally under the General Welfare clause. It's on interstate commerce with Wickard. It's literally a living document. You can probably find it in the Federalist Papers. Dude it's in Griswold. It's a Warren original. It's in the Elastic Clause. You can

many subcultures have ways to indicate “I’m breaking kayfabe and being serious right now” (the X-card, calling “scene”, /uj). is there a standardized way I can credibly signal sincerity to a broader audience? irony-poisoning is rampant.
