Today, we remember the families that were completely wiped out during the Genocide against the Tutsi. These 15,000+ families stand as clear proof of what genocide truly means: the complete extermination of a people.

no language is inherently academically poor. a language is academically limited because people haven’t used it and developed it academically. The solution therefore is to use it and develop it and not erase it and conclude it is not important.
Alexis Vacilli@alexis_vacilli
Also Kinyarwanda is academically poor, let alone relevant in the corporate world. And even if it wasn’t, we lack the global influence to force others to learn it when Rwanda brings so little to the international table in terms of exports and influence. Some things you just have to accept.

@Uwase_I @SomaBooks_Kigal If there is any way you can get any of the Yuliyana Books please please lemme know

One thing I am proud of doing is @SomaBooks_Kigal
I want us to decolonize through African books then we translate them in Kinyarwanda.
We write and read in Kinyarwanda.
Can wait to bring all of you affordable books Ubundi tukanezerwa.
Abakoroni tukabakatira 💃🏾

@Uwase_I I think what he meant to say is ikinyarwanda nta gaciro gihabwa especially muri coporate world and it's true. Uzi ikinyarwanda gusa ntaho wagera cyane cyane muri corporate world ariko niyo waba ucuruza keretse ucuruza bisanzwe ariko uko ujya hejuru ikinyarwanda ntigihabwa agaciro

@gira_amata I actually get what you mean, I just disagree that is intellectually dishonest and redactive. I am not removing anything I am just speaking on the reality side because, we all know we don't inherently need the language and it's not intellectually dishonest in anyway, so yes.
English

@tantineishere lets say the tweet you responded to is incorrect. do you think what you tweeted is correct? maybe thats a better question to ask you cause clearly you’ve missed what im getting at.
English

Because the world they exist in is Rwandese ? Ariko shaaa, you guys say this bs because you can speak those languages and because you have never ever been disadvantaged due to not being able to speak "colonizer's language"

Rwandans do not ‘need’ to understand colonizers language that’s a hill i am willing to die on
English

@gira_amata Clearly I agree that yes in theory you do not "need" the language however practically you do. And so if the debate is about the realities we live in everyday, we can not be out here telling people they don't need a language knowing well that it's not the reality
English

@tantineishere the separation of theory etc from real life here is literally the texture of the conversation thats being ignored. its also why what is “assumed” remains unsaid that naturalizes the condition you’re discussing. so actually the answer is no.
English

@gira_amata As much as, I agree saying it like that naturalizes our position as the colonized, that is the position we are in. I would even argue kubwira abantu ko they don't need a language knowing well ko nta mayira azabafungukira batarumenye kandi wowe uruvuga ari privilege
English

@tantineishere it important not to approach these discussion through a cynical/ defeatist/ despair lens (Lorde speaks to this via master’s tools & Cornel West via Black Nihilism in very practical lens). why? it naturalizes our position as the colonized.
English

@gira_amata But this is already assumed, we all know we do not inherently need to learn a colonizer's language. However there is theory, philosophy and academic approaches and there is real life and that is what is being discussed here; does the ordinary rwandan need english/ french ? Yes
English

@tantineishere does one NEED to learn a colonial language by nature, no. are there technologies of colonialism that make it a NEED, yes. must we investigate them, yes. does doing so require one to be absorbed from benefitting from it, no. these are not mutually exclusive discourses. at all.

@tantineishere this is intellectually dishonest AND extremely reductive.
