@_JimHorne Jim, too many ideas but just don't know where to begin 😅. I hope we will have a sequel about this and just have to convince a student to pick up some trails that are left by a former postdoc who has made some interesting findings.

@surt_lab While doing this, we did try different suppliers for tryptone, yeast extract, and agar and mixed them in different combos when making plates. Indeed, the sources do matter. We followed on the obvious one but there are other things in the plates that still remain puzzling.
