Lloyds tries to drum up first time buyer business with a £5,000 deposit offering on a home worth up to £300,000 at a rate of 5.89% for 5ys. Will this enable first timers who pay more or similar in rent onto the ladder…yes. Will it also create the risk of negative equity if prices fall and circumstances change and homeowners need to sell, yes. If a buyer has struggled to save a deposit, enabling them may not be the right course of action. Homeownership doesn’t stop with a mortgage, it comes with responsibilities and upkeep. I honestly think some people here on X have become completely detached from the reality of returns in the market.
In the past 6 weeks alone, many stocks have gone up well over 100%… In SIX weeks. 🤯
These are huge gains for some companies worth several hundred billion before the rally. Based on the average S&P500 return, that’s 10+ years worth of gains, captured in a matter of weeks.
Obviously that’s not to say they won’t go up further but from some of the reactions, you’d think their portfolios had gone down!
It’s clear we are in a historic period of time in these markets, with AI taking earnings and possibilities to whole new levels… but remember not to lose perspective.
