@Erek_Smith The insanity of positional (vs material) compensation in chess at times never never ceases to amaze me 👍🙂

When you don't have a culture of your own to speak of, criticising the culture of the continent which you literally copied from the get-go sounds faintly ridiculous tbh.

@JoeySalads @EllisvegasMoose No, it's true. They do have some awesome cheese. We blew past them on wine a while ago, lease their cars because ewww, their culture is based on killing each other, and their morals are a thin veneer they use to mask their fecklessness. But damn, that cheese.

@keybehaviours @watling_samuel David McGreavy, Ronald Jebson, Joseph Kappen, Robert Black, Raymond Morris, Colin Pitchfork, Sidney Cook, and of course Hindley/Sutcliffe. I assume you can remember at least a few of those...can't speak for all parents, but mine were very cagey about it at the time.

@watling_samuel How does that relate to walking to school? Aren't most child murders committed by a relative?

I played an IM in round 7 of the Atlantic City Open. I won. Below I have just taken his bishop on d5. Here he was low on time and took Rxh6+, which is losing after Kg8. After exd5 Rxe3 Rxg6 Kxf7 he does not have enough compensation for the piece.

Bazball, just a cunning plan before you started playing proper test cricket again then? Sounds implausible...🤨

Szabo vs Fischer 1970 Szabo has played the risky 16. Nxb5, but what elegant continuation does Fischer have to equalise on material and also give black a positional edge (taking advantage of the slightly odd rook on b4)?

After 5 rounds in the FIDE Candidates, the players currently in last place have each earned €15,000 in total ($17,280) for scoring 3 draws. This is ~$6,000 more, in real terms, than Mikhail Tal's prize ($1,000) for taking 1st place in the 28-round Candidates' tournament of 1959.

I played a WIM in round 5 of the Atlantic City Open. We got a draw. Below I played Qb4. Now I am worse after she plays Qe8. I missed after Qxb6 Bxg2 Kxg2 she has Nd5, when Rxd5 fails to Qe4+. So I have to play Qc5, but after Nxe3+ Qxe3 Qc6+ Qf3 the endgame is better for black.

Huge congratulations to Bodhana Sivanandan on becoming England’s top female chess player at just 11 years old. We once played each other in the Downing Street garden. Let’s just say her success has not come as a shock!

While his predecessor has gone down the rabbit hole and posts conspiracist nonsense about the deep state Mr Sunak celebrates, and spends post prime minister life trying to do good stuff.

Trying to market Freestyle chess off the performance of a player from their own circuit who has spent the Candidates Tournament moaning about one thing or another and will have left club chess players astonished today frankly...as far as plans go, it's not a good one really 🤨
