Asked what Andre Mills’ emergence means for next year’s team, Buzz Williams gave another long answer about how he'll evaluate who he wants to bring back from this year's group: "I think in roster construction and what this has become. I think all data points are important. ... How many guys on your roster can you pay? How many guys on your roster do you want to pay? How many guys in the Big Ten, if you look at the roster construction, exclude Maryland and look at the other 17 teams, how many of those teams – the train is so far down the track. Will freshmen do it? Can freshmen have an impact? So, I think you have to study all of that, and then you have to be at peace with your decisions in how you want to build."

Buzz Williams, who is a combined 51-69 in his first seasons at his five head coaching jobs, was asked if first year struggles are necessary for program building. More thoughts on Buzz today: Was really interesting to see him on the defense as much as he was, and that he felt he needed to apologize to fans directly. I do believe his explanations, and the desire to learn up on the program's history, are genuine. At the same time though, there's clearly been internal discussions about how to improve his messaging -- he brought up the "whatever was going on on the internet" thing without even being asked about it. He knows he's facing an uphill battle to win back Maryland fans, and that starts with answers like he gave today. I wish we got definitive news on Pharrel Payne and I'm not sure what Buzz gains from withholding that, but we all basically know where that's headed. I'm also very curious how a major college basketball coach gets by in 2026 without social media, email or a computer. I hope we get more access to Buzz moving forward. Fans deserve it.

Buzz added he isn't aware of "whatever was going on the internet" but that "I have not tried to dodge anything" in regards to inaccessibility. Asked how he's tried to learn more about the program's history, he said he's read a lot of books and talks with Locksley about it often.

Asked if he could have done more to connect with fans this season, Buzz Williams said he's "done as much or more than I've done anywhere" and "I'm not hiding anything." "I don't know exactly what I should have [done]. I apologize for those that don't think they know me."
