NEWS: George Mason's Jahari Long has entered the transfer portal, @LeagueRDY has learned. The 6-foot-5 guard has played two seasons at Maryland, two at Seton Hall and this season at George Mason. He averaged 12.0PPG, 4.0APG and 3.3RPG this season. Grad transfer.

That time of year that this is relevant, with only a few exceptions, I’m not a fan of any individual college basketball players. I’ll root for them while they play for Mason, but if they choose to leave they are gone to me, I don’t care if they succeed unless they stick with us.

@tblack331 But the roster payroll thing is real. They can currently spend like 5-6m a year and be at the top of the A10, or double that to be middle of the pack in the Big East.

This is what SLU and VCU don’t fully grasp yet, its not enough to be good. The financials have to make sense as well. TV markets following SLU and VCU aren’t really there yet. Dayton is the exception here, they not only consistently sell out a huge arena but put up big TV numbers

@MatSheltonEide At present, I just don't think vcu being in the BE changes the equation for the BE. Doesn't add a significant market (would be 2nd smallest in the conference) or meaningfully expand the conference footprint. Same reason why FSU or Clemson haven't been attractive to the SEC.

The “more with less” mindset at Mason needs to turn into a “more with more” mindset as long as Tony is here. Administration needs to go all in on both basketball programs and make sure they are well funded.
