I would say that the only thing that has changed is that nowadays that "verification" is done when the couple has children. Nowadays couples that divorce before they have children are seen as couples that divorced before cosumation previously, so the value of virginity is more tied to childbirth

I didnt say anything about what it IS, i dont disagree with what you just said. I was talking about what it started as.
Many slaves came from west africa for example and were muslims and previously practised customs such as the one that i described earlier. When they got to america the whites forced them to abandon their previous culture and when the slaves got free they had much more important issues to tackle as a culture than what were discussing here.

@Tunizi127 @kucing46013 @mog_russEN That distinction wasn't made. Regardless, "sexually liberated" cultures aren't a new occurrence. Marriage isn't a requirement for sexual activity. Still, it's odd to have to visually, actively confirm "consummation".
