The above represents some of the earliest expressions of ethnic chauvinism in Nigeria.
Ethnic chauvinism is tribalism in its more extreme, superiority-driven form.
Not merely “I support my people”, but the belief that one’s ethnic group is inherently superior, historically destined to lead, and more important than others.
So Chichi, tribalism did NOT lead to the downfall of this country. It is ethnic chauvinism, constant finger-pointing, and the refusal of accountability wherever it appears that has done far more damage.
