One time I was deep in New Hampshire in the mountains, and I couldn't sleep so I went outside & look at the Milky Way (which fascinated me because there is too much light pollution to do that where I'm from) , and a HUGE Luna moth swooped by my head and land near me. It was unlike anything I have ever seen. At first I thought it was an owl.

This huge #moth was spotted by our ecologist Ben Parkhurst during recent #monitoring at Hamelin Station Reserve. It's one seriously solid unit of #Lepidoptera. This moth is from the family Cossidae and likely the genus Endoxyla, which interestingly is the genus containing the heaviest moth species in the world, maxing out at 32g!
