Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Tuesday said he “welcomes” the CBI’s preliminary enquiry into allegations of preferential allotment of public works contracts to firms allegedly linked to his family, asserting that he and his government will extend full cooperation to the investigating agency. “I welcome the enquiry and will extend full support. With 100 percent assurance, I can say there is no fault from our end. The matter has been dragged on for years and I am sure even the Supreme Court wants it to reach a logical conclusion,” Khandu said. Responding to the opposition Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee’s (APCC) demand for his resignation on moral grounds, the chief minister dismissed the call, stating that there is “no hard and fast rule” requiring resignation during a preliminary enquiry. “A preliminary enquiry is just a process. Even at the state level, we conduct similar enquiries. Not even an FIR is required at this stage, and an enquiry does not imply guilt or conviction,” he said. Khandu added that the prolonged nature of the allegations, spanning over a decade, has personally affected him and expressed confidence that the probe would provide him an opportunity to clear his name. Addressing claims of non-tender methods and lack of recorded reasons in awarding contracts, the chief minister maintained that all due procedures and formalities were followed, leaving it to the CBI to ascertain the facts. 𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝: The Supreme Court had on Monday directed the CBI to register a preliminary enquiry within two weeks into allegations that public works contracts worth around ₹1,270 crore were awarded over the past decade to firms allegedly linked to Khandu’s family. Observing concerns over possible conflict of interest and deviations from tender procedures, the apex court said an independent probe was necessary to ensure transparency and fairness in public procurement. Pema Khandu པདྨ་མཁའ་འགྲོ་།
For years, the story of the Northeast was one of untapped potential. But today, that story has changed forever. Northeast and Assam is undergoing a historic transformation under the visionary leadership of Hon PM Shri @narendramodi Ji and Hon Assan CM Dr @himantabiswa Ji For too long, Assam’s potential was held back by neglect and instability, but today, its shedding the tags of underdevelopment to become the India’s next Semiconductor Hub and global centre of technology. We invite the people of Lakhimpur constituency to join this journey toward a prosperous and high-tech future. Support the vision of a developed Lakhimpur by standing with BJP candidate, Shri Manab Deka Ji, as we work together to build a #ViksitAssam and #ViksitNorthEast. #Lakhimpur #AssamElections2026 #DigitalAssam #ViksitBharat #SemiconductorHub #ManabDeka
