Harsh reality of many DevOps roles. Your current DevOps role may not make you future ready. DevOps is not just CI/CD. The best part - Your life doesn’t end here. 1) aws. amazon. com > AWS Free Tier > Sign up 2) aws. amazon. com > AWS Whitepapers & Guides > Pick a White Paper 3) Build a project 4) Github. com > awesome-aws > Find AWS libraries, open source repos, guides, blogs, and other resources. 5) Install Minikube 6) Github. com > awesome-Kubernetes ... repeat remember the word 'awesome' awesome-terraform awesome-ansbile ... You would find a gold mine of resources. 54K+ read my DevOps and Cloud newsletter: techopsexamples.com/subscribe Sign up to get 'The Practical Linux Guide for DevOps Engineers' What do we cover: DevOps, Cloud, Kubernetes, IaC, GitOps, MLOps 🔁 Consider a Repost if this is helpful

"Do you need to be proficient in Linux to do well in DevOps and Cloud?" The honest answer is yes, and that has not changed. Linux was always learned by solving real problems. You debug a failing service, and processes, logs, and permissions start making sense. You fix a networking issue, and ports, DNS, and routing become practical. That direct feedback loop is what built strong engineers. But today, it is easier to apply fixes without always going deep. You follow a set of steps, run a few commands, and move on. The problem gets solved, but the understanding does not always form in the same way. Reading a solution is very different from discovering it. That gap shows up when something behaves slightly differently, and there is no clear path to follow. To me, Linux is not becoming less important. It is more critical because everything still depends on it. Containers, Kubernetes, and cloud workloads all rely on the same fundamentals. Unfortunately, we are in a phase where depth is not always forced. I would still bet on strong Linux fundamentals, because when things break, that is where the real answers are.

Once, my manager in Singapore told me: If you don’t naturally wake up at 1 a.m. to spend 1 or 2 hours on production deployments, don’t call yourself a DevOps engineer. You need to fix up. To be fair, his planning ineffeciency can't be my emergency. 3 months later, I left that company. 3 yrs later, I was in a leadership role at their competitor’s bank. 2 yrs later, I left Singapore and returned to India. 1 yr later, I started my consulting agency. 1 yr later, that same company became my client, and I now work with their CTO to shape their cloud strategy. 'The Manager' became a Sr. Manager recently. It took him 7 years to get there. Do not budge to limitations - be it your boss, recession, AI, or circumstances. In tech, you always get better chances. Be qualified and ready to grab them. Many a time, you can create that opportunity. 54K+ read my DevOps and Cloud newsletter: techopsexamples.com/subscribe What do we cover: DevOps, Cloud, Kubernetes, IaC, GitOps, MLOps 🔁 Consider a repost if this is helpful.

DevOps new hires' life explained. Even experts need guidance in understanding your system’s setup and history. Without clear knowledge of the current design, key links, and hidden issues, expecting full productivity in weeks is unrealistic. System knowledge isn’t the same as technical skills. I've faced this challenge many times before. Focusing on the basics helped me early on. To pick up: - API flows - Network boundaries - Integration endpoints and more to watch out for... Stop expecting your new DevOps hires to 'figure it out.' 54K+ read my DevOps and Cloud newsletter: techopsexamples.com/subscribe What do we cover: DevOps, Cloud, Kubernetes, IaC, GitOps, MLOps 🔁 Consider a Repost if this is helpful

AI itself still confuses half the engineering world. Leaders are pushing AI coding tools across teams. Seriously? When you: - Don’t know how engineers are actually using AI day to day. - Don’t understand where AI tools really improve development. - Don’t see real engineering workflows beyond demos. How can teams adopt AI coding tools effectively? Many leaderships only got ambitions but not the real visibility into how engineers are using these tools. Luckily a panel of engineering leaders from Sony, Platform9, and monday(dot)com are coming together to share how their teams are REALLY using AI coding tools. The session will cover: - Real day to day usage of AI coding tools - What is actually delivering value in development workflows - Where AI tools are falling short despite the hype - Surprising lessons teams discovered during adoption Learn how popular engineering teams are actually using AI coding tools here: streamyard.com/watch/iyz4m3qA… It is quite useful. 🔁 Consider a Repost if this is helpful

DevOps Hiring → making certificates the first filter. Certificate Providers → cashing in on them. I once saw an AWS certified candidate confidently say “EC3 is the latest version of EC2” in an interview. That is the problem. - Organizations assume paper equals performance. - Individuals chase certificates as entry tickets. Somewhere we lost the purpose. Real skill comes from debugging outages, scaling systems, and keeping production alive. - Use certifications as skill validators, not the end game. - Build hands-on muscle, not just memorize answers. Because in DevOps, uptime is not saved by a certificate. It is saved by the doer. Be that doer. 54K+ read my DevOps and Cloud newsletter: techopsexamples.com/subscribe What do we cover: DevOps, Cloud, Kubernetes, IaC, GitOps, MLOps 🔁 Consider a Repost if this is helpful

This is what happens when you believe DevOps zero to hero in 45 days. The basics get skipped. The concepts are half baked. and the work you produce struggles in the real world. Jumping straight into Kubernetes, Terraform, and advanced CI/CD without first understanding Linux, networking, and cloud fundamentals doesn’t make you a hero. It makes you a firefighter, constantly fixing what breaks. You’ll face bottlenecks in problem solving, poor troubleshooting instincts, and gaps in core knowledge that show up when it matters most. DevOps expertise takes few years and the right pace. You’ll only burn your growth by rushing. Start as a Cloud Engineer. Focus on depth before speed.
