and scale not just code. Generalists don’t lack focus, they have leverage. Markets move fast. The winner is often: “Good enough across many areas” not “Perfect at one thing but slow” Being able to ship end-to-end is more valuable than being the world’s best at one tiny piece.

Jack Of All Trades Everyone is scared of being a “jack of all trades.” But in 2026, that’s exactly who wins. AI replaced narrow tasks. Humans who connect product, engineering, and business became more valuable. The best engineers I know can design, build, deploy, 🧵

@svpino How many times would one need to edit the docker file, other to set that build process up one time so it works? Can't see an advantage here

You are using Docker wrong. I promise! Here are the two things you are missing out: • Your Dockerfiles are using a single stage. This is very slow. • You aren't caching steps as much as you could. This is also slow. For a couple of years now, Docker has been using BuildKit as its primary engine, which has added support for multi-stage Dockerfiles. Here's the deal: A single-stage Dockerfile (the one you are likely using) forces every step to depend on the previous one. That means: • Everything runs sequentially • The generated image is huge • Any change will skip cached layers • No opportunities to parallelize steps Changing one line early in the Dockerfile renders everything after it useless. There's a better way: Start using multi-stage builds. I recorded the attached video to illustrate a comparison between a slow, single-stage build and a fast, multi-stage build. Here is what you need to do: Split your Dockerfile into independent stages using multiple FROM statements. BuildKit will turn those stages into a dependency graph and run independent stages in parallel. There are several benefits to this: 1. The build process will be way faster. Parallelizing independent stages will save a massive amount of time. 2. You'll get way better caching. Each stage has its own set of layers. If something changes in your build stage, your final stage doesn't get invalidated. 3.You'll get clean final images. You don't need to ship tooling, compilers, or temporary files. You'll only copy to the final image what you need. This has been a massive upgrade to the way I structure my Dockerfiles.

I learned the hard way. The only databases that beat PostgreSQL in specific metrics are specialized ones (like ClickHouse for analytics or Redis for caching), but as a general-purpose DB, PostgreSQL is currently unmatched in balancing features, performance, reliability, & cost.

@behindtextdev @hackSultan Another approach is the app uses the user’s live location all the time. To report an area being flooded the user turn on their camera and an AI model interpret the area and reports as flooded or not, that will be accurate. Location: gps Flooded: AI model User can’t lie.

Let’s play the devils advocate for item 4, users may falsely report flooding in some areas for reasons best known to them. In this case, we may want to ensure we have a number of different reports from the same area suggesting same before marking an area as flooded(gps enabled to be sure they were there). Lastly, flooding reports that are auto generated vs reported by users should be marked/colored differently.

Here’s how to build something like this. (My way of product building) 1. Understand that every rainy day is a potential flood day in specific parts of lagos. It’s been like this for over 5 years now. 2. The heavier the rain, the higher the chances of flood in those areas and new areas. 3. Map out those major flood prone areas and source free weather api to checkout for potential rainfall, time of rain, duration & how heavy. 4. Let’s users submit if their area is flooded or not. And save this for future rain so you can alert them to mark if it’s flooded again today that it’s raining heavily since they marked flooded the last time there was a heavy rain. 5. Categorise rainfall on 4 tier level. A for mid , and D heavy rain. Use free weather api data to filter different rainfalls into your sub-categories. 6. Allow users easily mark when it’s raining and if it’s flooded or not. People can submit from so many points even twitter ( API cost like mad now sha) Waze app legit allow you mark if there’s police on the way, if there’s potholes, obstacles, fog, etc. This is how I think about products when I’m building. Now tell me what part of this is not feasible and let’s work out how to work this out if we (hypothetically) wanted to build this.

want to build an app to predict potential road flooding in lagos. I'll check the volume of rainfall, calculate it against areas prone to flooding in the past and allow community members also report floods in their area. Before you go out, you'll already know if you should drive your car or your speedboat.
