Everyone's obsessed with winning.
I'm starting to find the beauty in losing.
The owner of the café near my house told me last week: "sales are really bad. If it keeps going like this, I'll have to close."
My first thought was: how brave. How incredibly brave.
She went for it. She tried. And now she's facing failure in real time, with her face uncovered.
I would have wanted that kind of courage.
I've been reading this book... Mastering Uncertainty, and something keeps staying with me: the best people don't eliminate uncertainty, they learn to move inside it better than everyone else. Failure isn't the opposite of success. It's the medium where growth actually happens.
Dopamine isn't pleasure. It's anticipation. And anticipation needs uncertainty to exist. When you fail, the brain doesn't collapse... it opens. It reads the error as a signal: "update your model. Try again."
Failure doesn't close the loop. It restarts it.
So yes... I want losing to give me dopamine. I want failing to be the drug that makes me try one more time. I want my brain to learn to read loss as the first signal of the next attempt, not as the end.
Am I crazy for thinking this way?
Maybe. But the café owner who took the risk... she already has what the ones who never tried don't. And I want exactly that.

Most people quit because they forget that you have to be bad at something before you can be good at it. It's so obvious. You suck. Of course you're not going to win in 2 weeks. But if you can learn to enjoy extended periods of failure, you will make it very, very far in life.

FSD drove my wife and I all the way from San Diego to Palm Springs for the weekend. Today it gave us an architectural tour powered by @grok . It picked the homes to see and routed them all together perfectly. I didn't film the whole thing, this is just a glimpse.
