1st new printer in a decade Realizing HP is just a massive data collection and recurring monthly ink sales, with pushy customer service. They don't really sell consumer printers

@BowTiedBull Plus 4% drawdown is accepted as the level at which you don't dent the principle

No clue why people think paid off home plus $4-5M is frugal living. That's ~$20,000 per month you can spend for life assuming ~5% returns. You don't have rent/mortgage so 99.9% of people will be fine with it

@BowTiedBull Cost of living has increased in the west , after tax takeaway on 4% drawdown (accepted as the standard to not reduce principle) and you must live at least a little frugally if you want it to last.

$4-5M + paid off house = Financially set, never do work you dislike $20M+ = can do anything except jets and yachts $60M+ = can rent private jet + rent yachts here and there $150M+ = can do all the stuff $60M can do but without even looking at it

@pt0kes thanks to your boden tweet I flew my parents to join me in France this week. While I let way too much evaporate, still got enough to enjoy some things. Thank you, homie.

@shagbark_hick @romdowski Offer 100% not 150. You have no competition to try to outbid. Be certain there is access / legal easements to the property. This is critical.

@romdowski and how would you feel to receive a handwritten, wax-sealed letter with a photo of a nice young couple? and if they offered ~150% of assessed value?

Has anyone ever bought land that was not on the market by sending a letter to the owner? I've maintained a meticulous list of all parcels that border the Erie Canal bike trail for the last 18 months, privileging those that are otherwise landlocked, with out-of-state owners. I've got the addresses of all of them, and I am wondering what the odds are I'll find a seller. I'm thinking that if I use a typewriter and a wax seal, and send a nice picture of my wife and I, it might be enough of a personal touch to send it over the edge. Make it as clear as possible I'm not a weird developer, and describe exactly what we aim to do. Quite a few of these properties are owned by the descendants of old farmers who have passed away. I think a lot of times, it's like this: Farmer's son moves to TX, farmer dies, son inherits a 6ac landlocked piece of woodland with yearly taxes of maybe $20, he owns it, never sees it, does nothing with it. Valued at maybe $5k. A guy like that gets a letter in the mail from me, maybe he wants to sell -- he knows he'll never do anything with it. Anyone done anything like this successfully?

@shagbark_hick Yes I did this in NorCal off-grid properties. Many were owned by beneficiaries and they weren't aware there was any desire for these very remote properties

@BowTiedBroke @kyleccaffrey When I started getting that golfball money I went to the local barber . They had 3 options ! Want the #1 #2 or #3 ? Looking back it was a good lesson in capitalism
