@akhmxt Not really. He has always criticized the Hindutva brigade. However,his hypocrisy is open when it comes to his opinion about Muslims and Islam vis a vis Hindus and Hinduism. It is no different from what RSS holds.

I’ve never been fond of Javed Akhtar - over the years, I’ve found him dated and not always in step with the politics of the present. But to accuse him of flirting with Hindutva feels far too convenient. I grew up in a Christian state, with Christian teachings shaping my early years. Some of those lessons still guide me today, they simply made sense to me as a child and continue to resonate. That’s my inheritance from the early 2000s. For someone like Akhtar, born in pre-partition India and steeped in Nehruvian ideals, secularism is the natural default. Quoting other scriptures, or using phrases now hijacked by Hindutva hardliners, is simply a reflection of his “archaic” worldview, one that is essentially rooted in an ideology of an earlier India. In that sense, both Akhtar and I are bound by the same thread: the idea of a secular India. Both of us, in our own ways, remain in love with this country, even when cynicism creeps in. And for that reason, I’d ask—show a little sympathy. Be kind. There are not many left like him.
