CHDM presence was not associated with metabolic syndrome or insulin resistance and was associated with a lower presence of carotid atherosclerotic plaques.

The presence of CHDMs was associated with higher circulating leukocytes, neutrophils, and IL-6, but with a lower ex vivo PBMC cytokine production capacity in women.
