The Holy Rosary Grade 1 class collected clothes, toys and books to donate to St. Vincent de Paul for our Lenten project. They helped carry it to the front of the school so I could put it in my car. Great job boys and girls! You helped many people in need.

In grade 1-2 we are always working at identifying the sounds. You can use even lining up to go outside as a time to work on the Science of Reading! Great work Holy Rosary grade 1-2!

@alcdsb_rosa What a great way to talk about the calendar, seasons and what to wear when the seasons change, not to mention celebrations throughout the year, including birthdays. I’m sure the children enjoyed it. 👍😊

@jv_teachie Fantastic! Listening and saying the sounds is very important. Make sure you and your students say them correctly. Also always be ready to go back to the drawing board. For instance printing and saying the sounds repeatedly. I had to do this with 4 students this year. It worked!

Today I am reflecting on the success of my Grade 1-2 students as a result of the Science of Reading. Children who came with no letter and sound recognition, 2 years ago, are now ready for grade 3. All my grade 1 students are reading to varying degrees. I am so proud of them! 👏

Check out our “Eric Carle” Christmas trees we made in Grade 1-2! We are so proud of how they turned out.

Grade 1-2 wrote a prayer to ask help and take care of those in need. They also made some colourful crosses that show that Jesus is an important part of their lived. We are beloved children of God.
