Tropical forests recovering from disturbances offset 1/4 of carbon emissions from tropical deforestation and degradation.

Natural forest regrowth may capture 1.08 Pg C /yr aboveground and 1.60 Pg C/yr belowground in a 30 years span. Those levels contrast with IPCC report, which estimated the potential C sequestration to be 32% lower. #inspiredTerrerLab

Our new study has just been published in @Nature! We find a marked increase in tree mortality in the tropical moist forests of #Australia in the past decades, consistent across many species and sites. The results point at #ClimateChange as the most likely driver.
