Republicans fined every quorum breaking @texasHDC member more than $8,000 for standing up for Democracy. A few days ago, I signed a personal check to pay for these fines while speaking at an event. My colleagues & I made these sacrifices because we love America. #txlege

We celebrate AAPI Texans by standing with them. Against scapegoating. Against discrimination. Against GOP laws that treat immigrant families like suspects first and neighbors second. Our fight continues. #txlege

International Workers’ Day belongs to the people who make Texas. The folks in classrooms, hospitals, fields, factories, offices, roads, kitchens, and job sites across this state. Texas workers deserve power. We're fighting for it. #txlege

This week, I am deeply troubled by the recent decision of the Supreme Court that effectively strips away the protections of Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act—one of the most important tools our nation has had to challenge voting maps with discriminatory racial effects.

Today, #SCOTUS took apart the #VRA, handing Republican state legislatures a permission slip to do what #txlege already did— cracking and packing Black and Latino voters so their voices won’t matter. Every state that can fight back, must. let’s go!

Today SCOTUS ruled in Louisiana v. Callais, striking down Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, the nation’s safeguard against racially discriminatory maps & voting laws. This marks a sweeping retreat from protections that have shielded voters for nearly 60 years. #txlege

Today, Trump’s Supreme Court rubber-stamped giving politicians more power to shape the electorate instead of being accountable to it. By weakening the Voting Rights Act, it’s now harder for Texans to fight maps that silence their voices. We’ve stood up before, and we’re not backing down. This raises the stakes, but it’s not the end of the fight. We’ll keep pushing in the State House, the courthouse, other legislatures across the country, and most importantly, at the ballot box in November. #txlege #hd115

This April is the 25th anniversary of Sexual Assault Awareness & Prevention Month. Across Texas, too many people, especially women and people of color, are impacted by sexual violence. Prevention is possible, starting with education and resources supporting survivors. #SAAM -TH

6 justices just rewrote 60 years of civil rights law. A state can now crack and pack Black and Latino voters into powerless districts and the law can't touch it, as long as they claim politics, not race. Texas already did this. We lived it. I lived it. This Supreme court ruling makes it harder to fight back in court. It does not make it impossible. And it does not make us quit. The ballot box is still ours. #SCOTUS

The Supreme Court just gutted the Voting Rights Act. Republican legislatures now have a permission slip to follow Texas’ lead: crack and pack Black and Latino voters, call it politics, and dare anyone to stop them. Last year, Texas House Democrats broke quorum because we saw this coming, and we knew we had to fight back. The Voting Rights Act was supposed to stop states like Texas from silencing voters of color. Today’s Supreme Court ruling makes our fight harder — but harder is not impossible, and we are not going anywhere. #txlege

Texas is going to execute James Broadnax next week for a murder someone else confessed to. James committed a robbery and should be punished for that, not executed for a shooting he did not commit. The State must intervene before a man is wrongly executed in our names.

Greg Abbott and Donald Trump started this fight. Virginia just ended it. When Texas House Democrats left the state last August to deny quorum, we said Abbott’s mid-decade gerrymander would spark a national response.
