All I want is a smidgen of consistency in political arguments. For example. If Boris Johnson is to blame for the parties held by civil servants when he wasn't even there, as "the buck stops with him". Then Keir Starmer is to blame for the inaction of the CPS against Jimmy Savile and others during his time there - as "the buck stops with him". What is good for the goose...is good for the gander.

@TerraOrBust Good grief no, UK farmers & around the world are trying to get away from reliance on phosphates, for good commercial & practical reasons (which cheap phosphates will not help long-term). More phosphate for solar panels and batteries probably good thoight.

This is indeed great news. Supply of phosphates for fertilizer has been a big problem, and having this supply so close by will be a relief to UK farmers. euractiv.com/section/energy…

@TerraOrBust No it's not. It's a clumsy and unfortunate phrasing of a complex and important issue which has been jumped on opportunistically for partisan reasons. For shame.

The last week of Twitter conversations have led me to a very simple conclusion. There are many people in the UK, who do not understand what the word "Lie" means. Being wrong about something, does not make you a liar. It makes you wrong.

@nicolag_oltiva @TerraOrBust He's not the first politician to do this, but like Trump he has moved this behaviour towards a norm, which projects the idea that not caring what's true is a way to win. Have the committee overreached in their desire to stamp out this behaviour? Will it backfire? Time will tell.

@nicolag_oltiva @TerraOrBust You have to sympathise with people trying to pin down the nature of his lies. He seems to have a genius for it, & little regard for the difference between something being actual absolute truth and merely something he can dress up as truth. Rory Stewart put it well of course.

Took 30+ tweets but we got there in the end. This is the nub of the problem - people ignorantly equating being wrong with being a liar. Just because you are wrong, does not make you a liar. You have to know you are wrong, and say it anyway, to be a liar. People can be wrong.

@TerraOrBust It's almost as if once you've been branded a pathological liar by multiple bosses, and routinely been cavalier with the truth... people just stop wanting to defend you. I don't know, maybe the process is broken, but this won't be the test case to fix it.

@tgent_fens I wouldve thought that, after using English for a while now, you would be able to recognise that my tweet could not remotely be characterised as a threat.

Be very careful what actions you condone against those you hate - as one day those you hate may use those same actions against you, and you won't have anyone left to cry to. "i'm happy to see this travesty happen, because I don't like him" You reap what you sow.

@TerraOrBust I don't disagree: things do escalate, particularly if neither side shows the character to step back. But I'd have thought after 42k+ tweets (in this iteration!) you'd have figured out how not to make facts sound like threats! It's just another casual form of escalation.

@tgent_fens No threats. Facts. Any underhanded approaches condoned now, will absolutely be used by the next party in opposition, to full effect. Which will destroy our parliamentary democracy.
