Announcement: I’m investing in and joining the board of a stealth startup that’s building a safe, uplifting social-media platform for teenagers. 🚀🚀
Why? Because I’m the dad of four kids, and I’m terrified of all the ways social media is ruining our kids’ childhoods.
Whether we like or not, teens spend hours every day on Instagram, TikTok, and Snapchat. They inhabit digital worlds outside the umbrella of parental protection, where they’re exposed to a fire hose of unhealthy content, emotional negativity, weaponized algorithms, cyberbullying, and even unsolicited sexual content and blackmail for explicit selfies.
The apps and the content might be digital, but the harm done to kids very much affects them in real life:
> self-esteem is decreasing
> depression rates are skyrocketing
> body-image issues and eating disorders are on the rise
> teenage suicide rates are the highest in decades
The damage isn’t just emotional, either—social media is also harming their intellectual development. Hyper-engaging content (see if you can count how many jump cuts there are in even one 30-second video) and the instant gratification of swiping from one viral post to the next are short-circuiting kids’ dopamine receptors and stunting their ability to develop meaningful attention spans. We can’t expect our kids to be able to focus on homework, hold meaningful conversations, or even just quietly enjoy the simple moments of life when social-media apps have re-wired their prefrontal cortexes to require an ongoing rush from social-media content.
It’s awful. And we, as parents, have to do something about, beyond just telling our kids they can’t have phones (sorry, but that’s simply not going to work when virtually every 14-year-old kid has an iPhone).
The startup I’m supporting is doing just that.
The team—led by a successful founder and CEO who’s a close personal friend of mine and with an executive team with experience at some of the world’s largest tech companies—is developing a new platform that leverages the good things about current social-media technology but inverts the hurtful aspects, turning the spiral of online negativity into a cycle of positivity:
> full commitment to user safety and emotional wellbeing
> content that lifts kids up instead of bringing them down
> algorithms that enable healthy usage but discourage screen addiction
> ability to interact with prominent creators without the risk of receiving inappropriate unsolicited messages
If you’d like to join my friend on this journey, he is currently finalizing a small seed raise, and there’s a small amount of allocation on the cap table still available for values-aligned accredited investors. I’m personally investing*, and I couldn’t be more excited about where this project is going.
If you’re interested, please comment below and DM me your email address. I promise we won’t spam you with anything—I’ll just be passing these along to the CEO, for him to reach out to you and provide more information.
Thanks and looking forward to sharing more!
* Full disclosure: I am investing capital in the company but I encourage everyone to do their own research. Investing in pre-revenue startups is inherently risky; if you do consider an investment, please consult with legal and financial advisors. The information presented in this post is for informational purposes and is not a guarantee of any future performance. I am not being compensated in any form for this post, nor am I being compensated for any funds raised. I’m just a guy who loves the founder, really believes in the mission of this company, and wants to see it succeed.

@realpeteyb123 First cup no earlier than 90 minutes after waking up. Cut off 6-7 hours before expected sleep time.

#chiefs offense this season is averaging about 6 pts in the 2nd half of games.

@shawngorham I’ve tried a number of home espresso machines. Here is the conclusion:
The steam wand is always the disappointment. It takes too long to heat up, won’t have enough pressure, and doesn’t consistently create good foam.
Focus on espresso quality for the budget you want to spend.

HELP: Coffee Nerds

@SteveDeaceShow Additionally, consider moving to New Hampshire or Maine, which have fairly small populations and contested senate races. This would give republicans the chance to pick up 4 seats in the senate.
English

These are states Republicans haven’t won in a presidential election in almost 40 years (1984), and how many votes Trump received from them in 2020.
CA 6.006,429
NY 3,251,997
MA 1,167,202
CT 714,717
MN 1,484,065
OR 958,448
WA 1,584,651
IL 2,446,891
That’s 17,614,400 essentially wasted votes in a presidential election decided by less than 50k TOTAL votes in AZ, GA, and WI.
Which if swung the other way would mean the Biden presidency would’ve never happened, and we’d be much better off as a country.
“But, Steve,” some of you will lecture me, one of the first people on election night who was pointing out the fraud in real time and got the entire Blaze Facebook channel demonetized for pointing out they were stealing the election, “they’d just steal more votes so this is pointless.”
1) If you truly believe elections are pointless, prove your own conviction. Stop posting about candidates, get the Hell off of political Twitter, and go join a militia and work on your aim. You’re gonna need it if “elections are pointless.”
2) Look at how hard and obvious they had to cheat to win by less than 50k votes. IF JUST ONE PERCENT OF THESE PEOPLE WOULD EVACUATE THEIR BLUE STATE HELL HOLES AND HAD SPREAD OUT TO AZ, GA, AND WI, THATS 170,000 MORE VOTES FOR TRUMP — or more than four times what they could conjure to claim they won in 2020.
If just 10 percent, or 1.7 million, of our people left these places and also spread out to places like PA and MI instead, DEMOCRATS WOULD BE SCREWED.
We are a country founded by pilgrims, who had to move away to find freedom. To preserve this country, as patriots we may have to become such pilgrims again.

@GrassFed_Graham @THEBROTHERTIGER @DrStevenJLawson @Ligonier @illbehonest I roast my own. 🤓it’s been a really fun hobby, with great tasting perks (pun intended).

Bayern is wasting all of Coman’s good work. They need Muller in the middle to work with Musiala to open up the middle as well as the outside. #FCBMCI

@AJA_Cortes AJACS: most people don’t workout, but if you commit to it and work smart, you can be the exception.

AJACS: many marriages fail, but if you commit and work hard & smart, you will have marital bliss. It’s good for you (& society).

@HeroDividend - Pursue (together) a vision and mission bigger than your marriage. For me, Christianity defines this. Serve the community, help the unfortunate, be there for friends, create a brighter future for your kids.
- Dote on your wife. Your emotional investment creates huge dividends.

@AJA_Cortes Are there particular exercises to do to strengthen grip, or would it be a byproduct of good form during other lifts (e.g. deadlifts, curls, presses)?
English

@OpenSoccerFdn If investing in a top flight team is the only “entry level” investment, then his point has merit. But the point of pro/rel is to allow more people, towns, and players to take part in the system, to enter at the level they can, and to have room to grow.
English

Dumb take by Garber. With #ProRelForUSA there is always OPPORTUNITY for a club to earn promotion to the top tier. More people will invest in the game with that OPPORTUNITY. What Garber is really talking about is a monopoly/cartel to restrict OPPORTUNITY of others.
Manuel Veth@ManuelVeth
Garber: “You can’t ask somebody ... to invest then find out that if you have a bad year, you are playing in a league that doesn’t offer the same opportunity... That might change at some point a generation from now.” More for @Transfermarkt transfermarkt.us/don-garber-maj…
English

@worldsoccertalk I think the biggest benefit of prorel is to incentivize more investment into lower levels (replacing college soccer). This will develop more young talent (and more importantly, coaching and front office staff). The results of an open system may not effect the MLS for years.
English

@worldsoccertalk #ProRelForUSA might increase competitiveness (and I am for it). However, the NFL & NBA are competitive without it. Consider the wage $ and college sports. Compare wage bills for MLS, NFL, NBA, & Premier League. And then compare college football, basketball & soccer industry.
