During the Turkish War of Independence, Turkestan Muslims sent 3 swords and a Qur’an to Ankara. They believed Türkiye’s fight was their fight, too. One sword was thought to be Timur’s. It was an amazing spiritual gesture. Atatürk honored them, keeping one, giving another to Ismet Pasha, and sending the third to the first commander into İzmir. All three swords became an incredible moral boost for the commanders at the frontlines.
