Dear colleagues, I'm in the last year of my postdoc at @FlatironInst and I'm looking for research and faculty positions in statistics, data science, and machine learning (for the summer/fall of '25). DM me if you know of places which would be a good fit!

@nj_clark @mcmc_stan I'll message you first because I don't have tons of time to contribute but I'd love to have it in a nicely maintained open source place. The only other place I've seen dynamic multipliers is in stata (when I compared I saw they had an error in their variance calc)

@thatpinkney @mcmc_stan I've never heard of dynamic multipliers (the VAR literature is quite new to me). But that sounds great, if you don't mind contributing

@dan_p_simpson Isn't the history of mathematics riddled with examples of this sort of thing? Matrix algebra was laughed at initially, complex numbers too, hell I think negative numbers were thought to be hearsay

@rmkubinec What do you say when they come back with that they think that The Bayesian Hitman should be 5.24 stars?

From now on whenever I review a paper that uses OLS on an Likert outcome I am copying and pasting this example 👿.

My book is 4.7/5 with 4 ratings. OLS shows there is a 95% chance that the true population rating would be found in an interval of (4.26, 5.24) as ratings▶️infinity. In other words, I could be the first Amazon author to have a >5 star rating!! Link: a.co/d/ioRw5cr

In Listening to Prozac, Kramer writes about how some depressed people respond to Prozac in a hypomanic way, but it doesn't seem to cause them any issues. They have loads of energy, getting things done, grabbing life by the balls, etc. Start there and find out why.
Louis Arge@louisvarge

what if we created new, better anti-depressants for healthy people which gave you _negative_ levels of depression? - instead of "not suicidal" go for "intense lust for life" - instead of "gets out of bed" go for "endless energy" - instead of "rarely sad" go for "always happy"

@ajordannafa @SolomonKurz Unfortunately this only works at the limits. My parameterization works for all w in [0,1] to imply the exact distribution

In Statistical Rethinking 2, Ch 13, @rlmcelreath introduced the centered and non-centered parameterizations for multilevel models. The equations below are based on the tadpoles models in Section 13.1. What would you call this 3rd kind of parameterization? #RStats #rstan
