@jonnybid @JoinScoutsTeam The Adventures of Scout are right up there for us and one of the best thought provoking environmental books out there right now. A young problem solving girl meets animals affect by problems and Scout and her friends take action to help better the planet.

Have been thinking about how important books and stories are going to be when pupils return to school, so here's a short thread with a few recommendations. Feel free to add more. Some picturebooks that can lead to really thoughtful discussions.

This weekend was @theriverstrust, ‘Big River Watch’ survey, asking individuals to download a really cool and simple to use app, and to answer some basic questions about the local state of our rivers. Scout has taken part, so could your little ones too 🙂

Girls are 5% less likely to recall learning STEM concepts before the age of 14, and therefore need more support in STEM subjects starting now so future girls have a better chance of pursuing the careers that excite them.

Boys have historically been encouraged to study STEM subjects more than girls. We believe that everyone should be encouraged to follow the career path that feels right for them, and we hope that our books can help encourage all kids to follow their dreams, no matter their gender.

How can you introduce STEM to kids? Start off small by simply pointing out STEM careers in books, films or shows they might enjoy, and talk about the things they have in common such as curiosity and problem-solving skills. Start up a conversation and see where it leads you!

Invigorating an interest in STEM subjects in kids as young as in primary schools has been proved by YouGov to make a big impact on who eventually pursues STEM careers.
