@redrumlisa Heat and dust of the steelworks. Pints lined up on the bar for the end of shift, according to my Grandad. Most of the pubs disappeared as soon as the industry did, same with many of the working mens’ clubs. Fair play to Wetherspoons for keeping it going.

My Dad & every man I knew worked down the pit a job which meant breathing in coal dust under the ground in hot temperatures they all came out thirsty and often went for a pint in THE PUB - we dont have those anymore in the deindustrialised communities- wonder why?? Agree with Hannah Spanner on this.

Yeah no, sorry, MPs are often cooped up in Parliament for 15 hours a day, they will have a drink with journalists or colleagues and will still be discussing politics -their job, as Hannah says. I don’t like the blanket demonisation of MPs and Hannah should know better after she had already been accused of not taking the job seriously because she took part in that dancing event in Portcullis house. It was unfair to call her unserious about that then and it is unfair of her to now suggest that MPs having a drink in between votes which take up all night is by default bad.

We all know that the rise of the mediocrity in politics, media, arts & culture industries has happened we know because of the poor level of experience, skill & outcome. We now know how that happens because Olly Robbins exposed it explaining how people get jobs in politics by being friends of friends not through merit. Look at the PM, the front bench & backbenches & ask is this the best of us or is the consequences of its not what you know but who you know?

The refugee industry is now so lucrative its here to stay the refugee industry now supports smugglers, hoteliers, taxi companies, catering companies, many charities & NGOs, private health care & Dentists, Landlords, counsellors & other mental health organisations, retail clothing businesses, all paid for by the British taxpayer except the smuggling the refugees pay that bit. Its not going anywhere refugees are a whole industry now.
