The Adirondacks were included in land to establish a Forest Preserve in 1885 which were meant to be "forever kept as wild forest lands." The Adirondack Park was then established in 1892 and in 1894, the "forever wild" clause was approved during a NYS Constitutional Convention.
It’s officially mud season here in the Adirondacks! Be sure to wear proper footwear whether you're on the trails or elsewhere.

Navigating the Adirondacks was no easy task in the 1800s, that's why having a good guide was essential. Guides like Alvah Dunning (pictured here) knew the area well and would collect all the necessary materials and supplies to ensure their client's trip was pleasant and safe.

The ADKX was lucky to be in the path of totality yesterday, and we celebrated this once-in-a-lifetime celestial event with hundreds of visitors from around the country! Thank you to everyone who helped make this one of the most exciting and enjoyable events we’ve ever put on.

A steam shovel working at Benson Mines here in the Adirondacks in 1910. These tools were vital to many industries in the 19th and early 20th centuries, eventually being replaced by cheaper diesel-powered machines in the 1930s.

Dolph was born in Fort Ann, NY, southeast of Lake George. He began his artistic career as a portrait painter and in the 1860s, turned to landscape painting of the Adirondacks and New Hampshire.
