2015: Moved to San Francisco with no intention of ever starting my own business. None. 2016: Started getting interested in other peoples companies. I still knew it wasn’t for me but I enjoyed reading/listening/talking to all these everyday people doing amazing things 2018: Began writing down my first few ideas around this brand of approachable fitness for busy people. Had no confidence I could do it on my own but thought maybe I’d find a business partner 2020: Alta v1 launches and fails. 2022: Alta v2 launches and fails. 2023: Alta Coaching as it exists today launches to incredible success out the gate. Becomes a 6 figure business in under a year. Due to a combination of hard work, all the experience I mentioned above, and most importantly a product that gets results. I’ve heard clients mention failing with every big brand you can think of but finally hitting their goals with us. I used to be intimidated by those brands but there was no reason to be. They were just a few chapters ahead in their story. The point is this: I’m not being falsely modest when I tell you I’m not that special. I am not an athlete. I did not go to business school. All I did was start somewhere and never stop. Want to be in the best shape of your life? Start today with 1 push-up. Do 2 tomorrow. Want to speak a foreign language? Buy a textbook today. Study one page tomorrow. All you need to do is get started today and continue to put one foot in front of the other. Just don’t wait yet another day. You got this 💪

Here is a quick and easy way to do a simple gaming livestream set up (webcam, microphone, & game app) with OBS, which is free encoding software. obsproject.com/download Whenever I need to do RTMP livestream testing for work, I use OBS. And for a simple setup like this, I'd recommend turning off HDR for your game while streaming so your output won't be washed out. I know our livestreaming tools are pretty simple and basic right now... but that's just for right now. 😉

✋parent of a kid who just entered TK here. Our PTA is asking families to raise an average of $750/kid for the year. Some families will raise far more, supporting the families that can't shoulder that ask. We've been told by the teacher that this eliminates her need to create Amazon wishlists, monthly fundraisers, etc. Which I am glad that A. she can focus on teaching and B. I will not be peppered with requests all year. Why this fundraising/donation exists? My thinking is that America already chronically underfunds public education compared to our 1st world peers, and charter school voucher systems are cutting even further into public school budgets. I think it is common to see this type of fundraising happen in affluent communities where the families with kids in the schools want to create a better experience where possible, without raising local taxes on the greater community. They have the disposable income to make it happen, so they do. I am not sure this is as common a practice in underprivileged communities. When I do the math the PTA is asking for about $18/week extra, which doesn't feel overly burdensome in my personal situation, but may be for others, so I am hoping as a school community we can lift each other up. Regarding the "manage the budget" element. As I am new, I'll reserve judgment on how the funds are actually spent for now, but it seems like our school and PTA are both focused on core educational elements and not bougie frills. If your school or PTA seems to be investing funds in less than impactful ways, then that is 100% a matter of managing the budget better. Probably a longer answer (opinion) than you were looking for, but character counts aren't a thing any more, so all gas, no brakes!

Can a parent explain to me why its common to donate annually to a public school? I understand the school “needs” the money but why can’t we just manage the budget instead? Genuinely asking. Seems incredibly common

A quick summary of why all these UFOs are popping up now. Call it Science Sunday… or Superbowl Science Sunday. In spatial science (in this case radar/satellite data), we use techniques to filter out noise so we can identify objects in space (the abstract space, not outer space). Think of it like trying to find a tennis ball on the beach using a 3d scan of the beach read as lines of text. You know how big the tennis ball is, so you take all the data from the beach and tell the computer to find a round object that is the approximate size of a tennis ball. It would take a lot longer to find the tennis ball if every small object on the beach had to be reviewed one-by-one. So we tell the computer to ignore everything that doesn’t look like a tennis ball. Same goes with detecting aircraft. We know the range of sizes aircraft typically are, and we know they move across space, so we filter out tiny objects that aren't large enough to be typical aircraft and/or are stationary so we can readily find objects that fit the parameters we set for things like war/spy planes/drones/etc. When the balloon thing happened, NORAD reduced the filter sensitivity to allow smaller objects to pass through. Now, we're picking up these small, slow-moving objects that had been filtered out before. Back to the beach analogy: we essentially turned off the filter and now we’re picking up sea shells, coins and lost rings. What the objects are and what nation/entity they're from has not been announced. They are simply unidentified flying objects (UFOs) at this point. These weren’t necessarily launched or sent recently, we just never looked for them. Now we are. And we’re finding there are quite a few of them there.

I recommend between 2-5 mins or 5-15 mins with the brands and publishers I work with for Twitter Live Events. The Starting Soon screen should at least be animated with music or have a countdown, if possible, so folks can receive notifications and have time to get to the broadcast. But I also think it depends on the content. For example, Fashion show livestreams sometimes go live 30mins before the runaway starts, but the "Starting Soon" content shows the venue setup, people getting to their seats, camera switches, stage prep and I've seen anywhere between 15k to 20k live viewers ready for the runway to start.

What's the perfect length of time to run a Starting Soon screen?
