Deputy Minister Alexandra Abrahams visited the Exhibitition Centre at the annual Proudly SA's Buy Local Summit and Expo at the Sandton Convention Centre before her address to attendees. The theme for this year is: 'Localisation.....a critical imperative for the economy.'

"If we succeed in working together, we can create a marketplace where fairness is not the exception but the norm, where consumers are treated with dignity and respect, and where businesses compete on the basis of integrity, innovation and value."

Deputy Minister Zuko Godlimpi says the protection of consumers in SA is not simply a regulatory matter but a matter of economic justice and social equity. He spoke at the commemoration of World Consumer Rights Day hosted at the University of Limpopo in Polokwane.

"Government must ensure that regulatory frameworks remain robust, responsive and capable of addressing new challenges. Regulators must be empowered to enforce the law effectively and decisively. Businesses must commit to ethical conduct and compliance."
