Identity vs Programs AA: You are broken. Follow this program or you will get worse. Recovery: You are broken. Working toward becoming less broken. Non-drinker: Nothing to fix. Alcohol simply isn’t part of your life.

Most in sobriety still need a villain to fight against. They have to do things to prevent alcohol from happening to them. If they don’t do them, alcohol will happen. Some of us decided not to play that game anymore. Be sober vs Be a non-drinker Big difference.

Your ball and chain isn’t the bottle. It’s the belief that you need it. AA offers a key. Freedom from that specific lock. But the price is perspective. A different lock with a different ball. You trade “I need the bottle” for “I need AA.” One dependency replaces another. One lens swapped for a different tint. Perspective shapes reality. If you don’t choose it, it will choose you. What if you saw yourself as someone who simply doesn’t drink, and became that person? No fight. No system. No struggle. Just freedom. Be authentic. Become more.

Forgiveness has two parts. First Forgive that it happened. Second Forgive the impact it had on you. Most people can forgive others. Very few forgive themselves. That’s where the real weight lives. Be authentic. Become more.

The ego hides the true shadows from you; it deflects you to thoughts and beliefs that are easier for you to accept and deal with. It will make you feel good for having dealt with those, all the while protecting the true shadows.  Discomfort is the key. Become more.
